The Book "Grant's Secret Service" by William B. Feis
Notes: Records, Newspapers and Books seem to indicate Charles was a Spy/Scout for General Grant during the Civil War. There was a very interesting story about him in North & South Magazine, June 2001, Volume 4, Number 5. He was medically discharged, and went to South Texas to hunt outlaws. He died of consumption (TB) at the Dayton Soldier's Home in 1879.
