James S. Penhollow

A lifelong Chautauqua County resident, he was born July 26, 1919,
in the town of Ellery, a son of Albert and Mable Seekings
Penhollow.
Jim served in the U.S. Army, 28th Division, 110th Infantry
Regiment, 2nd Battalion Company E during World War II, from
March 9, 1942 through Sept. 18, 1945 in the European Theater.
He was employed by the former Steel Partitions Inc for 15 years.
Later, he owned and Operated Jims Delivery for 21 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a life member of Henry Mosher Post 638 American Legion in
Falconer and was a member of their Firing Squad and Color Guard.
He was also a member of Chautauqua County 40/8 Voiture 446 40
ET 8; John W. Tiffany Post 53 Veterans of Foreign Wars; Chautauqua
County Color Guard; and Chautauqua County Joint Veterans Council.
He held many positions in the various veterans organizations of
which he was a member. Jim was a past member of War Vets Recreation
in Fluvanna and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1681.
For many years, he played baseball in the area, and bowled in
many leagues. For 28 years, Jim was a member of the Chautauqua County Area Umpires Association and was inducted into the Chautauqua County Umpire Hall of Fame.
Jim was profiled in Rolland Kidders book, A Hometown Went To War, for his World War II memoirs.
His life enriched all who came in touch with him, from the people
who he delivered groceries for, to state and local dignitaries.
Surviving are his wife, Myrtle E. Spinler Cobbe Penhollow, whom
he married Aug. 31, 1968; a daughter, Gloria J. Loucks Briscoe
of Monroe, Ga.; three sons: Daniel Cobbe of Gerry; David Cobbe of
Jamestown; Thomas Cobbe of Dewittville; a brother, Harold H. Penhollow
of Jamestown; two sisters: Beatrice M. Lohnes Nelson of Russell,
Pa.; Patricia M. Gilbert of Jamestown; 14 grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1931; his mother in 1979;
a son, Robert L. Carlton 1970; two sisters, Agnes L. Baker 1975;
Bertha A. Ingerson 1991; five brothers, Almon M. 1973; Ernest F. 1930;
M. Cecil 1982; Louis M. 1997; Theodore A. 1944; and his step father,
Edward A. Gilbert in 1965.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home.
The Rev Mary Krahn, Hospice chaplain, will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and
7 to 9 pm Thursday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Firing Squad
and Color Guard of the Henry Mosher Post 638 American Legion.
Laura Elizabeth Roe
Laura Elizabeth Cobbe Roe 1923 - 2008 Our beloved wife, mother,
grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, returned home to her Heavenly
Father. December 9, 2008, Her husband and daughter were by her
side.
Predeceased by her parents, Robert E. Cobbe and Lillian P. Burrows;
and her sister Marianne Carter. Survived by her husband, Kenneth A. Roe; her
daughter, Lara J. F. Vales; her granddaughter, Francesca Vales; her sister,
Miidred Mower; her brother, Walter Cobbe; and many cousins, nieces, and
nephews. Born in Lakewood, New York, November 9, 1923, she resided in
New York, California, and Utah.
She was a convert to the LDS church and lived by an unassailable faith. She was a gifted musician. teacher, and writer. Her novel "Nowhere" is close to publication.
We are grateful for the time she graced our lives.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday,
December 27th at 1:00pm, at the Foxboro 2nd Ward. 875 W. Foxboro Dr.

Priscilla Burrows Nixon

WESTFIELD - Priscilla Burrows Nixon, 78, of West Main Street, Westfield,
died May 26, 2011, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Jamestown N.Y., the daughter of the late
Fern S. and Floyd L. Burrows of Jamestown, and resided in Westfield for
over 50 years.
A distinguished leader in her community, Mrs. Nixon was involved and
active in numerous organizations and projects and was prominent in arts,
antiques and historic preservation.
Known for saving historical landmarks, she was founder and president of
both the Peacock Landmark Society and the Landmark Society of Chautauqua
County. As well, she helped found the Friends of Rockefeller Arts Center
in Fredonia, and was instrumental in placing Westfield on the National
Register of Historic Places.
Honored in 1983 by the Westfield Chamber of Commerce, she received their
"Citizen of the Year Award." In 1984, she received the New York State
Historic Preservation Private Sector Award in recognition of
extraordinary achievements in the field of historic preservation by Gov.
Mario Cuomo, who described her as a "tenacious and charming, grassroots
preservationist".
In 2009, she received recognition as past chairperson and 21 years of
service by the Westfield Planning Board for her countless contributions
and direction in helping make and keep Westfield historically significant.
A committed advocate of local and county history, she was a lifelong
member and supporter of the Chautauqua County Historical Society, where
she alternately served as president, vice president and director for
many years; giving service and support to this important organization
which the Nixon family had supported over past generations before her.
Other past president and official roles in organizations Priscilla was
involved in included the Chautauqua County Republican Women, Union
Relief, the Westfield YMCA, the Patterson Library and the Westfield
Garden Club.
For decades, she was responsible for and managed the renown Westfield
Antiques Show for the Chautauqua County Historical Society as well she
owned and operated her own antique business, Priscilla B. Nixon
Antiques.
A lifelong member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church
of Westfield, she was involved with, supported and helped contribute and
restore the church sanctuary during the last building restoration.
Priscilla loved to travel and spent many of her earlier years traveling
the world visiting numerous countries and memorable sites. Anyone who
knew her, knew her life was blessed by the love of her animals.
Priscilla is survived by her two children: a son, Mark Stephen Nixon
(Jan) of Lakewood, Colo.; and a daughter, Emelie Nixon Alexander of
Boston, Mass. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roderick A. Nixon; and her
parents, Fern and Floyd Burrows.
The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to her doctors
and the numerous caregivers and friends who aided her in her comfort and
well being over the last few years. As well, a special thanks to the
nursing staff at the Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York
and Hospice of Chautauqua County.

Mrs. A. M. Cobbe
Charlotte Louise Beaver Cobbe, of Erie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine
Beaver, Shenango, died at the home of her mother July 25, 1932, at 2:30 p.m.
She was born at Shenango, Aug. 14, 1888. (On) July 21, 1917, she was united in
marriage to A. M. Cobbe, of Jamestown, N.Y., who survives.
She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Valintine Beaver, seven sisters, Margaret,
Katherine, Elizabeth, and Eva, of Shenango; Mrs. Jane Huson, Cleveland; Mrs.,
W. J. McDowell, Meadville; and Mrs. E. J. Hoagland, Clarendon, Va.; two brothers,
Albert G. of Conneaut, O., Walter D., Greenville.
She was a member of Luther Memorial church, Erie where she resided.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p. m., July 27 at Holy Trinity
Lutheran with the services conducted by William E. Eisenberg.

Jack D. Mosberger, age 51, of Mt. Carmel, IL passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012 at
Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born April 30, 1961 in West Union,
West Virginia the son of Leonard I. and Thelma (Montgomery) Mosberger.
Jack work for Ameriqual.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include two daughters Vanessa Cox of Moline, IL and Jaleigh Mosberger of
Queensland, Australia; two brothers Dale Mosberger and Roger Mosberger both of
Grayville, IL; two sisters Vicki Leavens of Grayville, IL, Maggie Kijonka of Long
Beach, Mississippi; as well as four grandchildren.
The body is being cremated with services to be held at a later date.

Kenneth Arnold Roe
Kenneth Roe, passed away peacefully at the Sarah Daft Home, in Salt
Lake City, Utah on October 24, 2013. Ken was born on October 13, 1929 in
Ithaca, New York, to Frank Asbury Roe and Lenna Dawn Bennett.
On November 3, 1956 he married Laura Elizabeth Cobbe in Ithaca, New
York; together, they had one daughter, Lara Jeanne, born September 10,
1961 in Van Nuys, California.
A graduate of Ithaca High School, Ken worked as both a cook and a
janitor to support his family. He had great passion for and an
encyclopedic knowledge of classical music and opera and played piano by
ear.
A lover of both animals and nature; he enjoyed the art of botany, the
serenity of gardening and was especially fond of flowers. A true
wordsmith, he couldn't be beat at Scrabble and did crossword puzzles
daily. He both appreciated and wrote poetry.
Ken is remembered by those who knew him best as hardworking, gentle,
humble, shy and funny. Most of all, he loved and was loved by his
family.
Ken is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Lenna Roe, wife, Laura
Elizabeth Cobbe, brother, Leon Roe and sister, Christene Roe Cobb.
He is survived by his daughter, Lara Jeanne Fields, and granddaughter,
Francesca Grace Reine Vales (as well as his grand dogs Lucky and
Sugar)of Salt Lake City, Utah. Sisters, Althea (Harold) Cobb and Nancy
(Gary) Newhart. Nieces and Nephews, Marion Ike, Robert Cobb, Ruth
Whatman, Kathy Bacheller, Daniel Cobb, Gene Cobb, Phil Cobb, Richard
Cobb and Judy Broesder, Linda Witherow, Faith Petterson and Luke
Newhart, as well as several great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the Cardiology Team at the University of
Utah, Millcreek Hospice, FlexCare and the Sarah Daft Home for their
loving and competent care. They also wish to thank Al and Jeanne Thelin,
as well as friends Janet Alcala and Allie Diamond.
A Memorial Service for Ken will be held at his home, the Sarah Daft Home
(737 South 1300 East) in Salt Lake City, Utah on Wednesday, October 30,
2013 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served afterward .

Myrtle S. Penhollow
Myrtle E. Spinler Penhollow, 92, of 850 North Main St., Jamestown, passed away at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in UPMC Chautauqua WCA. A lifelong area resident, she was born December 18, 1924 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late William and Grace Collins Spinler. She married Walter S. Cobbe in 1945.
Before her retirement she was employed by the former Quality Markets, working at the Prendergast Ave. store for many dedicated years. She and her late husband Jim were very active in the Henry Mosher Post 638 American Legion where she was a member of the ladies auxiliary.
Surviving are three sons, Daniel W. Cobbe of Gerry, NY, David H. (Connie) Cobbe of Jamestown, Thomas E (Beth) Cobbe of Dewittville, NY, 10 grandchildren, Amy Waild, Julie Cobbe, Jennifer Johnston, Mark Cobbe, Matthew Cobbe, Paul Cobbe, Herb Cobbe, Peter Cobbe, Marie Crandall, Keith Hitchcock, 11 great grandchildren, a brother, Harold Spinler of Cassadaga, NY, and a sister, Helen Fain of Greenhurst, NY.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Penhollow whom she married August 31, 1968 and who died December 26, 2005, three brothers, Charles, Willie and Walter Spinler, a sister, Mary Blood and a nephew Robert W. Spinler.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Penhollow will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

David H. Cobbe
David H. Cobbe of 161 Barrett Ave., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, at UPMC Hamot in Erie, one day following his 70th birthday.,
He was born in Jamestown on Jan. 27, 1950, and was the son of Walter Cobbe and the late Myrtle Spinler Cobbe Penhollow.
A sergeant, he served in the U.S. Army from 1969- 71 with duty in both Vietnam and Cambodia. In August of 1998, he was the recipient of New York State's Conspicuous Service Award by then Governor George Pataki.
Prior to retirement, David had been employed by Naco Express for over 20 years, and had formerly worked for Valley Industries and Flickengers.
David was a devoted New York Yankees fan, with a highlight coming Memorial Day Weekend of 2018 when he was recognized as the "Veteran of the Game" at home plate in Yankee Stadium.
He always took great pride in and never missed his grand children's events.
Surviving is his wife, Constance Christner Cobbe, whom he married April 6, 1974; a daughter, Jennifer (Rob) Johnston of Falconer; Mark (Stephanie) Cobbe of Sugar Grove and Matthew (Michelle) Cobbe of Falconer; and five grandchildren: Cassie Mosher, John Mosher, Erica Cobbe, Mason Cobbe and Alyse Cobbe. Also surviving are two brothers: Daniel Cobbe of Gerry and Thomas (Beth) Cobbe of Dewittville; as well as his sister- and brother-in-law, Candy and John Johnson and their three daughters: Melissa Updike, Jessica Dockwiller and Mandi Fisher.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle in 2017; and by his stepfather, Jim Penhollow in 2005.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Tara Lamont Eastman will officiate. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
