Michael D. Aaron, 74, of 111 Erie St., Lakewood, died Monday, April 1, 2013, in his home. He was the husband of Barbara Aaron. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Acu-Rite as an engineer. Arrangements will be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.

Adams, Richard F.
Richard F. Adams, 79, of 20 Jeffords St., Jamestown, died at 4:51 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 2, 2013), in WCA Hospital. He was born Oct. 27, 1933, in Mount Holly, N.J., the son of the late Thomas and Everald Adams. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1955 until 1961. Prior to retirement, he worked as a chef at various restaurants for 60 years, including head chef at the Ironstone, Town Club, Moose Lodge, and Millers Grove. He was a member of the American Legion, and was an avid fisherman. Surviving are two sons: Steven (Kristy) Adams and Brian Adams, both of Jamestown; a daughter, Holly Adams of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren: Mark (Melissa) Adams of Columbia, S.C., Matthew (Vanessa) Adams of Belleville, Ill., and Daniel Adams of Jamestown; and four great-grandchildren: Trent, Anakin, Loralye and Victoria Adams. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois DeKay Adams, whom he married Jan. 17, 1958, and who died July 24, 2001. The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Cameron Lienhart will officiate. SINCLAIRVILLE - Edward A. Acker, 72, of Old Chautauqua Road, Sinclairville, N.Y., died Friday (April 27, 2012) in WCA Hospital in Jamestown. He was born July 5, 1939, in Jamestown, the son of the late Francis and Pearl Robbins Acker. Edward was the owner/manager of Edward Acker Lawn Service; he had also worked at Fieldbrook Farm in Dunkirk. He attended Open Door Baptist Church in Cassadaga. Edward enjoyed flowers and gardens, he was an avid movie collector and loved music. He also loved his dog Fat Boy and all of his previous pet dogs over the years. He was highly thought of in his community and will always be remembered for his hard work ethic and great generosity to others. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by one daughter Linda Hamton (husband Frank), of Buffalo, N.Y., several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two nephews, Tim Shoemaker, and Stewart Shoemaker, two nieces, Trudy Shoemaker and Tammy Foti and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ed had many friends that he con-sidered to be like his family, especially Kim Meacham and Tony Grey who were very devoted to caring for him as if he was their father. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, his sister and brother-in-law Bruce and Elizabeth Shoemaker, his uncle William Robbins and his maternal grandparents Clarence and Elizabeth Robbins. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Sinclairville. Memorials may be made to the Gerry Fire Department, or Hospice of Chautauqua County. The Freay Funeral Home in Mayville is in charge of arrangements.
Adams, Thomas B.
Thomas B. Adams, 76, of Ellenton, Fla. and Stow, N.Y., passed away Jan. 3, 2012, in Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, Fla. Tom was born in Jamestown, N.Y., on Aug. 23, 1935, to the late Burton T. and Hildur V. Gustafson Adams. Tom was a graduate of Jamestown High School, Jamestown, N.Y. and Bowling Green University, Bowling Green, Ohio. Tom worked for Art Metal Inc., Jamestown, N.Y., "Automatic Sprinkler" in Broadview Heights, Ohio, and retired from Quickdraft Co. in Canton, Ohio. Tom enjoyed fishing on Chautauqua Lake and Lake Erie. He took many fly-in fishing trips to northern Canada. He enjoyed participating in golf, bowling and was a great softball pitcher in the Jamestown area during his younger years. He was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, the Palmetto Elks Lodge and Loyal Order of the Moose. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and family. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Fanchon; sons: Jason (Delarie) Ft. Worth, Texas, and Tyler (Kristen) Stow, Ohio; beloved grandchildren Ashley Adams, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Kailey and Cooper Adams, Stow, Ohio; sisters: Marcia (Alan) Rupp and Sandra McAllister; sisters-in-law: Darrylin (Bill) Sperry and Lexie (Jim) Wood. Also, many nieces and nephews. Ruth Ann Alday, 84, of Sherman, N.Y., passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at the home of her caregiver. She was born on June 9, 1927, in Sherman, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Faith (Moore) Karges. Ruth Ann had worked for the county Board of Elections as a secretary. She was involved in many organizations: the Minerva Club, Rebekah's, Home Bureau to name a few. She is survived by her sons: Maury (Mary Gale), and John (Kathy) Alday, both of Sherman, N.Y.; grandchildren: Tyler Alday, Savannah Alday, Tawny Walters, Dawn McGinnett, Lindsey and Nicholas Alday; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert M. Alday Sr., August 22, 2009; a brother; John Karges; and two half-brothers: Bill and Ed Fortune. Services will be held at the convenience of the family, no visitation will be observed. Interment will be in Sherman Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Stanley Hose Co., P.O. Gertrude Aldrich, Route 60, Fredonia, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, after a brief illness. She was born June 5, 1926, to William and Henrietta (Miller) Lesch. Gertrude was a member of the Fredonia Methodist Church since 1949, where she had been a Sunday school teacher, was active in the Women's Society and served in various committees. She was also active in the League of Women Voters, the Country Life Club and Canadaway 4-H Club. Gertrude provided support to her husband and sons in the family business, Aldrich Dairy. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leonard Aldrich; their five sons: Scott (Larisa) of Fredonia, Doug (Colleen) of Cassadaga, Craig (Laurel) of Fredonia, Seth (Kathy) of Tully, and Brian (Ann) of Dunkirk; 16 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Burton (Sarah), Sarah, Julia, Daniel (Lindsay), Mark (Shannon), Benjamin, Nathan, Stephen, Zachary, Lily, Hannah, Kelsey, Lindsey, Sydney and Gabrielle; a sister, Mary Ellen (the late Harry) Centner; two brothers; William (the late Flosie) Lesch and David (Irene) Lesch; along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, James (Sarah) Lesch. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 21, at the Fredonia Methodist Church, 25 Church St., Fredonia. Allen, Elmer C.
Elmer C. Allen, 86, of Jamestown, N.Y., died April 24, 2012, at Hamot Medical Center. He was born Jan. 23, 1926, the son of William and Lula Breeden Allen. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1947 as a motor machinist's mate second class aboard the USS Long Island. He was employed at Watson Manufacturer and Jamestown Metal Products, where he retired. He was a huge Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan. He loved to bowl, take walks and sit on his front porch with his dog, "Cuddles." He also loved to walk to Jammers Stadium where he collected foul baseballs and donated them to little league teams. He is survived by his wife, Naomi (Meabon) Allen, whom he married Nov. 5, 1947, in Randolph; two brothers: Phillip Allen and Alonzo Allen; three sisters: Naomi Rhinehart, Audrey Crawford and Bertha Walsh; two sons: Martin Allen and Michael Allen (Maria Allen); four daughters: Harriet Allen, Candace Storer (David Storer), Valerie Clark (Dayle Clark) and Darcie Wright (Robert Wright); 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers: William Allen, Ethan Allen and Earl Allen; a grandson, David Storer; and a step great-grandson, David Salde. All services will be private.   Bradley Anderson, 91 years old, of Montgomery Texas, passed away on August 30, 2015.
 A former Portland resident, Brad was the creator and cartoonist of the syndicated comic, Marmaduke.
  A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at 11 am on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Portland Congregational Church, 8849 Church St. in Portland, New York. The Rev. Gordon Spiller will officiate the service. Prior to the Memorial Service his ashes will be laid to rest at 10 am on Saturday, July 2 at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery in Portland New York. The Masonic graveside service will be provided by The Carroll Lodge 1147 F&A.M. of Frewsburg, New York. That will be followed by The 33rd Degree Memorial Service conducted by The 33rd Degree members of The Valley of Jamestown A.A.S.R. At the conclusion of the Masonic services, full Military Honors will be accorded to Brad by The American Legion John W Dill Post 434 of Brocton, New York. The American Flag will be presented to his wife Barbara by Chaplin Fran Lus. A Dedication Ceremony for the Brad Anderson and Marmaduke statue will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Portland Town Hall, 87 West Main St. Brocton, New York. Bruce S. Anderson, 61, of 128 Miller St., Sherman, N.Y., passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at his home. He was born on June 24, 1950, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late Arthur and Mae (Pierson) Anderson. Bruce worked at Heritage Park as a licensed practical nurse. He was a good friend and a wonderful father, and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Renee M. Anderson, Big Sky, Mont.; a son, Ethan A. Anderson, Rochester, N.Y.; a brother, Kevin Anderson, Ashville, N.Y.; a sister, Bonnie Gallea, Florida; and three half-brothers: Ricky Knapp, Rome, N.Y., Kenny Knapp, Niobe, N.Y., and Dave Anderson, Lakewood, N.Y. Anderson, E. Marie
E. Marie Anderson, 82, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away peacefully on May 30, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Mystic, Conn. Marie was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Henry and Mary Madeline (Burke) Lerow. At a young age, she moved to Atlantic City, N.J., where she lived for many years, and worked in the restaurant and real estate businesses. She later moved to Sarasota, Fla., where she continued to work in the real estate business that she enjoyed so much. Marie is survived by her daughter, Dianne and son-in-law, Jerry Johnston; her grandchildren: Lisa, Kristine, and Stephen Dreher and Adrienne Ziebart; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dolores Lerow; many nieces and nephews and her very special niece, Mary Helen Rappole (Dr. Bert). Marie was predeceased by her husband, John E.; brother, Francis Lerow; sister Helen (Lerow) Tramonte; and sons: James Wolfe and John (Nicky) Anderson. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held June 10, 2012, at noon at Go Fish Restaurant, Mystic Conn. Harry Lamont "Bud" Anderson, 69, Sarasota, formerly of Lawrence and Topeka, Kan., died Dec. 24, 2011. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Cheryl; one daughter, Jennifer Gongora of Orlando; a son, Jeff of Fort Lauderdale; a brother, Ron of Jamestown, N.Y.; and two grandsons: Nicholas and Adrian. James R. Anderson, 59, of 21 Birch Road, Kennedy, died Thursday, May 17, 2012, in Nashville, Tenn. He was born March 11, 1953, a son of the late James A. and Geraldine Robinson Anderson. He was a 1972 graduate of Greater Latrobe High School. He served in the National Guard for 23 years. He had been employed by Dowcraft as a skilled assembler. His memberships include Sheet Metal Workers' Local 112 and Jamestown Moose Club. He enjoyed outdoor activities especially hunting and fishing. Loved spending time with his family, working on cars, shopping and going to auctions. He will be greatly missed by his dog, Shelby. Surviving are his wife the former, Nancy LaMarca, whom he married June 8, 1985; three children: Amy Anderson of Jamestown, Tammy Patterson of Kennedy, and James R. Anderson Jr. of Greensburg, Pa.; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; his stepmother, Dolly Anderson of Latrobe, Pa.; four brothers: Raymond Anderson of Texas, Joseph Anderson of Pleasant Unity, Pa., Bruce Anderson of Texas, and John Anderson of Greensburg, Pa.; and two sisters: Beverly Weinwright of Donegal, Pa., and Brenda Shaffer of Latrobe, Pa. KENNEDY - Joyce A. Anderson, 80, of 15 Munson Road, Kennedy, died Thursday (Dec. 1, 2011) at WCA Hospital. She was born June 17, 1931, in Jamestown, the daughter of Elmer and Velma Wasberg Munson Carlberg. In early years, she had worked at the Rio Restaurant, enjoyed her friends at Camp Skogen and teaching neighborhood children how to swim. She loved to work in her flower gardens, knit, sew, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Frewsburg Ladies Auxiliary. Joyce was survived by two children: Vickie (Bryan) Champlin and Delford Anderson Jr.; two grandchildren: Bryan Champlin Jr. and Jodell (William) Hyldahl; six great-grandchildren: Jacob, Leah, and Gracie Hyldahl, Kayla Johnson and Elizabeth and Kelly Champlin; a great-great-grandchild, Aurora Hyldahl; and two brothers, David (Dottie) Munson of Kennedy, and Duane (Shirley) Munson of Orlando, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband, Delford Anderson Sr., whom she married Jan. 3, 1948, and who died Dec. 24, 1997. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg. Kelly Elizabeth Anderson, 49, of Sinclairville, NY, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012, in Gerry following a six-year illness, with family by her side. Kelly was born Dec. 6, 1962, in Jamestown, and was the daughter of the late Clifford and Patricia Bris-tow Anderson. She graduat-ed from Cassadaga Valley Central School in 1981. Kelly was a quiet and humble person who spent her life caring for others, including her mother and the several pets they enjoyed over the years. She loved feeding birds and other wildlife, creating a haven for them by planting more than 400 trees on their property. She had a special closeness with nephews: Levi and Jacob Swanson. She took pleasure in sending cards to others, carefully selecting the ones she thought each person would enjoy, and always chose thoughtful gifts for her family. She loved children and babysat many throughout her life. Kelly is survived by four sisters: Carol (James) Everetts of Perrysburg, Karen (William) Roberts and Colleen Moeller of Sinclairville, and Connie (Mark) Swanson of Dewittville. She is also survived by a niece, Shannon Roberts; nephews: Dale Everetts, Brett Roberts, Matthew and Mark Moeller and Levi and Jacob Swanson in addition to a great-nephew, six great-nieces and several cousins. Lena Anderson, 87, 112 Summit Ave., Jamestown, passed away Wednesday (June 20, 2012), in UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa. She was born April 27, 1925, in Pittsfield, Pa., the daughter of the late Metro and Mary Seminuk Manelick. Lena was a 1945 graduate of Youngville High School, and in earlier years, was employed by Sylvania in Warren, Pa., and the former Big N Department Store in Jamestown. Prior to retirement she was employed by Matco Tools for 10 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, the Women's Bible Study of Zion Covenant Church and the Dianna Lodge of Vikings. Lena was a very loving devoted mother and grand-mother, who thought the world of her grandchildren. She was a hard worker who devoted the later years of her life to taking care of her disabled husband until she was no longer capable. She looked forward to the day when she would be with him again in heaven. Her hobbies included taking care of her home, gardening, reading, her Bible, knitting and solving work puzzles. She will be deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Traci Anderson, daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Matt Lincoln, all of Jamestown; and her four grandchildren: Nicholas Lincoln of Newport News, Va., Corey Lincoln U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Afghanistan, Jordan and Tiffany Anderson, both of Jamestown; three brothers: Harry Manelick of Jamestown, Richard Manelick of Pittsfield, Pa., and James Manelick of Youngsville, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Anderson, whom she married Sept. 24, 1955, in Youngsville, Pa., and who died Aug 4, 2001; three brothers: Nick, John and Bill Manelick; and a sister, Doris Lucie. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Adam Steubenick of Bethel Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Anderson, Leona M.
Leona M. Anderson, 93, of 9 Crane St., passed away at 11:22 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 27, 2011), at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong city resident, she was born July 18, 1918, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late John and Viola Konieczny Miller, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1936. In earlier years, Leona was employed by the former Empire Worsted Mills and the Crescent Tool Co. She was a lifelong member of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss. Peter & Paul Church, where she had been active in the Altar & Rosary Society. Surviving are three sons: Joseph (Murlene) Anderson of Philadelphia, Tenn., Thomas (Muriel) Anderson of Burlington, Vt., and Paul (Nancy) Anderson of Penn Yan, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Anderson, whom she married July 18, 1942, in Ss. Peter & Paul Church, and who died Feb. 28, 1988; two brothers: Joseph and Leo Miller; and three sisters: Romaine Gustavson, Helen Domst and Martha Barber; and a nephew, John Barber. Mary A. Anderson, 99, formerly of 303 W. Fifth St., and Lakewood, N.Y., died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was the widow of Raymond G. Anderson, whom she married in October of 1932, and who died in April of 1951. Mary was born March 22, 1913, in Mayburg, Pa., the daughter of the late John C. and Sarah Gifford Rudy. She was a 1930 graduate of Jamestown High School and member of the National Honor Society. Mary worked for the former P&A Market in Lakewood, from 1951 until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday school treasurer for many years. She was also one of the founders of the Lakewood Golden Agers and a member of the Oddfellows and the Lakewood Fire Department Auxiliaries. In earlier years, she was active with PTA in Lakewood. An energetic volunteer in later years, she was involved with RSVP, the Lakewood Library, the Board of Elections and the Senior Nutrition Program. Mary loved family picnics and was well known for her baked bean recipe. She enjoyed playing cards, bunko and bingo, as well as sewing, crossword puzzles and word jumbles. She is survived by two daughters: Janice Eckberg of Jamestown, and Judy (William) Hughes of Gaithersburg, Md.; a son, James R. (Marianne) Anderson of Jamestown; 16 grandchildren: Anita Juul, Karen Nobbs, Kurt, Sarah, Eric, David and Karl Eckberg, Amy Tribble, Lisa Morrow, Mary Kay Behanna, Marcy Wagner, Marne Rammbeling, Peter Hughes, Thomas and William Anderson and Jennifer Brown; and 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Vaughn Rudy. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Violet A. Davidson will officiate. Raymond C. Anderson, 96, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles, Ill. Ray was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Charles and Helen (Ogren) Anderson. He graduated from Jamestown High School with the class of 1932. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. from 1940 to 1945 during World War II in Europe. He also served in the Army Reserve during the Korean conflict (1950 to 1952). He was employed from 1937 to 1975 by the Automatic Voting Machine Company of Jamestown, N.Y. During his retirement years, he continued his ham radio hobby and became interested in genealogy and computers. Ray was also active in the Jamestown Viking Club on Lake Chautauqua, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Throughout his life, Ray enjoyed fishing and boating and collecting and listening to music. He met his wife Carol (Robb) in New York City, and they were married June 14, 1947. Together they raised their two daughters in Chautauqua County, and Geneva, Ill. They lived their retirement years in Arkansas and Maple Springs, N.Y. Ray and Carol moved back to the Geneva, Ill. area in 2002 to be near their daughters. Ray is survived by his daughters: Leigh (John) Marberry of LaFox, Ill., and Mary Helen (Bill Johnson) Anderson of Genoa, Ill. He is also survived by his grandchildren: John M. (Jacalyn) Marberry, Beth (Jared) Sponzilli, Nate (Melissa) Marberry, Ben Johnson and Alex Johnson. Also seven great-grandchildren: Melissa, Tommy, and Dylan Marberry; Ryan, Evan and Anna Sponzilli and Lauren Marberry. He is also survived by three nieces; Jeanne (Curt) Ecklund, Joyce (Steve) Tedquist, and Karen (Ray) Fitch and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Robb Anderson; and by his sister, Marian (Reuben) Rinaldo. There will be no funeral service and burial will be private. Wendell Murray "Swede" Anderson, 85, of Route 394, Randolph, passed away Tuesday (Dec. 6, 2011), in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Jamestown, the son of the late David and Florence Kay Anderson. Wendell attended Randolph High School and received his diploma through the Veteran Recognition Program. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy SEABEES. Prior to retirement, he was employed by International Union of Operating Engineers Local 17 as a mechanic. He was a member of the Randolph Loyal Order of Moose, Randolph Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Randolph American Legion Post 181. Wendell enjoyed racecar driving in his youth and was an avid NASCAR fan. Surviving are his son, W. Craig (Priscilla) Anderson of Randolph; a daughter, Kim Anderson Kahanic of Falconer; three stepchildren: Michael (Judy) Hettenbaugh, Gregory (Jayne) Hettenbaugh and Elizabeth (Dennis) Lerow, all of Randolph; six grandchildren: Derek, Courtney and Wyatt Anderson, Carrianne, Christopher and Nicholas Kahanic; six step grandchildren: Greg, Tim and Kaylee Hettenbaugh, Dylan, Morgan and Madison Fiebelkorn; a brother, David Kay Anderson of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters: Merrilyn Buccola of Frewsburg, and Norma (Howard) Vine of Kennedy. Lois M. Andrews, 80, of Jamestown, passed away Monday (March 25, 2013), in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident, she was born Dec. 8, 1932, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Alfred J. Slagel and Margaret Hayes. Lois was a graduate of Jamestown High School, and in earlier years was employed by the Jamestown Lounge. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Jamestown Bus Transit. She was a member of the Jamestown Moose Lodge and Jamestown Eagles Club. Lois enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was a New York Mets and NASCAR fan. Surviving are her husband. John W. Lucrezia "Lou" Tomassini Anzideo, 91, died at 11:25 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 8, 2011), in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born March 29, 1920, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Edmondo and Gelsomina Tomassini. Lou was a 1938 graduate of Jamestown High School and received her associates in arts degree from James-town Community College. She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and from 1982 to 1987 worked at the The Post Journal. Surviving are two daughters: Patricia Anzideo (Michael Flaxman) and Jeanne Anderson (Richard), two grandsons: Eric Anderson (Marygrace) and Ian Anderson, four great-grand children: Beck, Jacob, Olivia and Claire; a brother, Jeff Tomassini, two nephews; Edmond and Raymond Tomassini, and a niece, Juanita Walter, all of Jamestown. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Angelo J. Anzideo, whom she married Sept. 21, 1940, and who died Aug, 11, 2000; and a grandson, John Leif Anderson. Gregory T. Apthorpe, 42, of 50 Stewart Ave., died at 5 a.m. Friday (Jan. 6, 2012), in WCA Hospital, following a lengthy illness. He was born Nov. 27, 1969, in Buffalo, the son of John Apthorpe and Jeannine Williams Armele. He had worked as an independent painter and contractor. Greg had a great smile and enjoyed life. He was a caring, loving, and giving person with family and friends. He enjoyed wood-working, making wood flowers and birdhouses, and also enjoyed fishing and camping. RANDOLPH, N.Y. - Willis N. Archer, 82, of Archer Hill Road, Randolph and of Ocala, Fla., passed away Wednesday (June 27, 2012), at home, on the family dairy farm in Randolph, following a brief illness, with his family by his side. He was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Randolph, the son of the late Lawrence John and Helen Covert Archer. He was a 1948 graduate of Randolph Central School, where he was the president of the Future Farmers of America as a senior. A lifelong dairy farmer, Willis owned and operated his family's fourth-generation dairy farm from 1952 until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Archer was a member of the Cattaraugus County Farm Bureau, where he served as president from 1992 to 1994, vice president from 1994 to 1995 and director for many years, Steamburg Milk Cooperative and was a three-term director and past president of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association of New York State. Other memberships included East Randolph United Methodist Church, associate member of the Ocala West United Methodist Church, Sons of the American Revolution, Ocala West Men's Club, Randolph Lions Club and the Randolph Historical Society. He had served as supervisor for the town of Randolph from 1988 to 1992, town grievance board and served as a Randolph committeeman for the Cattaraugus County Republican Committee. Willis was very proud of agriculture and of his family genealogy dating back to 1630 in England. He lived by the thought, "Everyone needs to give back to the community in which they live." He is survived by his wife of 32 years; Gretta Beck Archer, whom he married on Nov. 23, 1980; two daughters: Dr. Kimberley (Dr. Timothy) Blake of Vermont, and Dawn (Mike) Durow of Randolph; four sons: Allen (Melissa) Archer of Virginia, Paul (Cynthia) Archer of Ohio, Charles (Barb) Archer of Ohio and Bill (Becky) Grossman of Florida; 14 grandchildren; Michael Archer, Timothy Archer, Nathan Archer, Daniel Archer, Curtiss Archer, Katherine Wojtowicz, Sean Blake, Ned Blake, Andy Durow, Jeff Durow, Kristen Durow, Billy Grossman, Maggie Grossman and David Grossman; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: identical twin Vern (Helen) Archer of Tennesse and Ronald Archer of Florida; a sister-in-law, Muriel Archer of New York; and several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. Teretha Robinson Arnett, resident of Stroudsburg, Pa., and former resident of Chautauqua, N.Y., passed away Jan. 3, 2012, surrounded by family. She was a month shy of her 90th birthday. Mrs. Arnett was born Bonnie Teretha Robinson in Hickory, Miss., to Lonnie Edgar and Gertrude Lawson Robinson on Feb. 9, 1922. She attended Hickory Schools with her six brothers and sisters, and enjoyed a happy life growing up on the family farm, Wickware. Her college studies were interrupted by World War II, when she took a job as personal secretary to the base commander at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, Miss. She met her future husband, Capt. Robert J. Arnett Jr. of the 86th Airborne division, and their courtship led to marriage in 1942. After the war, the couple moved to her husband's hometown of Uniontown, Pa., where Robert resumed his banking career. Mrs. Arnett soon became active in social and civic organizations, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Uniontown. Years later, she shared her stories of the "culture shock" of moving from the south to the north. A first son, Robert John Arnett III, died shortly after birth in 1944. A second son and daughter followed. In 1956, the family relocated to Chautauqua, N.Y. Her children attended Chautauqua Central School, where Mrs. Arnett was active in the American Field Service Program, the PTA, Boy and Girl Scouts, and was an MYF leader at Hurlbut Church. After her children went to college, Mrs. Arnett worked for the Old First Night offices during the summer under the direction of "Doc" John Reed. In 1972, she accepted a job as office manager for a philanthropic organization located in Chautauqua. The provision was made for her to have Monday afternoons free, so she could play her beloved bridge in Monday Club. Following her retirement, the Arnetts spent winters in the south, finding favorite spots on the Carolina coasts. Following the death of her husband in 1993, Mrs. Arnett continued to reside in Chautauqua. Her volunteer work included WCA Hospital in Jamestown, the Mayville Food Bank, Chautauqua Fire Department Auxiliary and the Summer Meals Program at Hurlbut Church. She served on the foundation board of the Westfield Hospital in conjunction with St. Vincent's Health Center in Erie. She traveled with her dear friend, Rose Piper, across Canada, the Panama Canal and through Europe. She also traveled to England and Scotland with her family. In later years, Mrs. Arnett spent happy summers in Chautauqua together with family and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert John Arnett; brother Ralph Robinson; sisters Margery Williams, Louise Craven and Nell Stuart. She is survived by a son Samuel L. (Cynthia) Arnett of Stroudsburg, Pa.; daughter, Melissa Arnett (Philip) Carl of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren; R. Evan Carl of San Francisco, Jonathan M. Carl of Atlanta, and Elizabeth Arnett Paille of Cleveland. Also surviving are one sister, Doreen Harrison of Meridian, Miss.; a brother, Edgar Robinson of Hickory, Miss.; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, devotion to family, and love of life. She never lost her sense of humor and she never lost her southern accent. She will be sadly missed, but always remembered with a smile. The family is holding a private graveside service and will announce a summer memorial service at a later date. Arnold, Gerald R. (Jerry)
Gerald R. (Jerry) Arnold went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, Feb. 12, at Heritage of Edina Assisted Living Home in Edina, Minn. He was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Falconer, N.Y., the son of the late Harry and Bernice Lyons Arnold. Gerald graduated from Falconer Central School and Jamestown Business College. He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army, where he was a technical sergeant of the 351st Fighter Squadron with Air Offensive in Europe, central Europe, the Rhineland, from 1942-45. He graduated from Northwestern Bible College in Minnesota and went on to serve as pastor at Snake River Free Mission Church in Becker, Minn., for 46 years. While in college he worked for Dayton Department Store in Minneapolis, Minn., and rose to become the assistant department manager. He started in September 1954 and retired after 32 years. He is survived by nephews: Douglas Arnold of Falconer, and Robert C. Arnold of Minneapolis. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon. Sara A. Wicks Arnold, 88, of Falconer, passed away Tuesday (May 29, 2012), at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing in Jamestown. She was born in April 9, 1924, the daughter of the late Selah and Sara Pulling Wicks. Sara was a graduate of Randolph High School. In earlier years, she was employed by Inkley's Drug Store in Randolph, and McKallor Drug Company in Jamestown. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Heritage Village Nursing Facility in Gerry. Sara was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Falconer, where she was the missions treasure and a member of the Rosalie Neathery Circle. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, reading, and loved her dog, Peggy. Sara especially enjoyed eating at her favorite restaurant The Cow in Ellery Center, where she loved the staff and friendly atmosphere. Sara is survived by her son, Doug Arnold of Falconer; two brothers: Frank (Audrey) Wicks of Randolph, and John Wicks of Sparrow Bush, N.Y.; a sister, Celia Bolyard of Madison, Wis.; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon L. Kathryn E. Arters, of Webster Road, Fredonia, N.Y., died Friday, June 1, 2012, at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk, N.Y. Thomas E. Atkinson, 74, of 18 Mission St., died peacefully Sunday, April 29, 2012. Prior to his retirement in 1999, he was a 43-year employee of Marlin Rockwell Corporation as a set-up man. Robert E. Audley, 85, of 5 School St., Sugar Grove, Pa., passed away on Nov. 2, 2011, at Warren General Hospital. He was the widower of Virginia (Allenson) Audley, whom he married on Jan. 9, 1951 in Jamestown, N.Y. Virginia passed on Jan. 27, 2006, after 55 years of marriage. Robert was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 5, 1926, a son of the late Elizabeth (Weiderman) and P. Edward Audley. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy, and attended the Delehanty Institute of Electronics after his military service. He owned an operated a TV repair shop in Sugar Grove for many years. He was a member of the Sugar Grove AMVets Post 50 and the Sugar Grove American Legion. He was a lifelong railway enthusiast. Robert is survived by two sons: Art (Brenda) Audley of LaPlata, Md., and Doug (Wendy) Audley, of Amelia, Va.; and two grandsons: David Audley, of Amelia, Va., and Robert Baldwin of LaPlata, Md. In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by four brothers: Edward, William, Herbert and Arthur Audley. Aument, Beverly R.
Beverly Rinell Aument, 77, of Mount Joy, Pa., departed this life on June 13, 2012, at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy, after a lengthy illness. Born in Jamestown, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Carl A. and Veronica Atkins Rinell, and the wife of the late Ronald L. Aument. She graduated from Frewsburg Central School, valedictorian of the class of 1952, and from Upsala College, East Orange, N.J., in 1956. She earned a master's in social work from Ohio State University in 1959. The great majority of her social work career was spent in Lutheran Social Service agencies in Ohio, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. She was appointed to the faculty of Yale University Medical School while doing medical social work at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Conn. She retired from Tressler Lutheran Services, Mechanicsburg, Pa., in 1996, after 27 years as a therapist and director of the counseling program there. Beverly was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Marietta, where she sang in the choir and served on the congregation council. She also served several years as a volunteer at Milanof-Shock Library in Mount Joy. She is survived by stepdaughters: Jennifer Aument, Landisville, and Heather Rineer, Lancaster; stepson, Scott Aument, Pine Grove; brother, the Rev. J. Roderick Rinell Sr. of East Hampton, Conn.; stepbrothers: Michael, Donald and Gary Dove, Frewsburg, N.Y.; nieces: Janice Melland, Minot, N.D., and Karen Myers, Norfolk, Va.; nephews: the Rev. J.
