Hagstrom, Joyce E.
Joyce E. Hagstrom, 82, of 138 Mckinley Ave., Jamestown,
N.Y., and 124 Shipmans Eddy, Warren, Pa., died Monday, Dec.
12, 2011.
Feb. 14, 1929, was a cold brisk wintery day. Where the
snow was glistening in the sun and you could hear the
crunching of the snow when you walked.
This was the day that J. Ernest and Elise (Barber)
Engman became parents of a little girl who only weighed
three pounds. They named her Joyce Elaine Engman.
Joyce graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947. She then went on to Jamestown
Business College. After she graduated from the business college, she went to
work for The Jamestown Post-Journal. She worked there for almost 40 years.
Joyce use to love to tell the stories about how she used to have to go to all the
stores to pick up the ads for The Post-Journal. She also talked about her children,
grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and all the pets she had. But, most
of all she loved talking about the love of her life, Cleon Nichols. They were
together for almost 35 years.
She was a short, loving lady who used to love her chocolate cake, peanut butter
cups and her Pepsi.
Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren always will remember her
as the little loving lady, who would chase them around the house with an orange
racetrack when they misbehaved or threatened to sit on them.
She wanted to say goodbye to all her longtime friends like Norma, and Olive and
Al and her cousin, Marge. And also to her new friends like the Bakery Man and his
wife and the two guys that gave her a ride in the canoe and then gave her a kiss.
Most of all she wanted to tell Romeo goodbye who she thought of like a friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Coleen Hagstrom who she lived with; her son,
Kyle and his wife, Sandy Hagstrom of Edinboro, Pa.; her grandchildren: Heather
McCray Johnson, Chad McCray, Michael Wright, Nathan Hagstrom, Morgan Patterson
and Ryan Anderson. Her great-grandchildren are Brittany, Ashleigh, Ray Johnson,
Bianica, Ethan, Alex and Aiden McCray. Stepdaughters: Leanne Nichols Parker, and
Bonnie Nichols. Step grandchildren: Shawn Jr., Vanessa, Jessica, Nichols and Dylan
Griffith and Cody Parker. Step great-grandchild, Shawna Nichols.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Engman; a
stepson, Shawn Nichols; and her love of her life, Cleon Nichols, who died Nov.
18, 2009.
There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at her grandson's
house at 371 Old Warren Road, Frewsburg, N.Y.
Joyce has donated her body to science to help find a cure for Parkinson's disease.
A happy family is but an earlier heaven - Sir John Browning.
