Maczaczyj, Mary A.
Mary A. Maczaczyj, 72, of 3137 N. Main St. Ext., died Sunday,
Dec. 18, 2011, in WCA Hospital.
She was born Nov. 8, 1939, in Allens Mills, Pa., a daughter
of the late Charles and Florence Shick Dempsey.
Mary had, together with her husband, owned and operated
the Red Barn Restaurants in Jamestown and Dunkirk from 1972
until 1984.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Maczaczyj, whom she
married June 6, 1958, in Reynoldsville, Pa.; three children: Steven (Dawn Rafferty)
Maczaczyj of Jamestown, Lori S. (Peter) Cummings of Cassadaga, and Dennis Maczaczyj
of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Alison, Amber and Dillon Maczaczyj and Courtney
Cummings; and two sisters: Shirley Reed and Boots Coffman.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The
Rev. Ray Donohue will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Magoon, Ruth E.
Ruth E. Magoon, 56, of Dunkirk died Thursday afternoon (Jan. 5, 2012) at home.
She was born Aug. 11, 1955, in Erie, Pa., the daughter of Mary (Thompson) Magoon of
Westfield, and the late Leland Magoon.
Ruth had been employed by Chautauqua Opportunities in Dunkirk as a teacher's aide
in child care.
Besides her mother, she is survived by three brothers: Leland "Tex" (Connie) Magoon
of Findley Lake, Mike Magoon of Corry, Pa., and Larry (Kinnosha) Magoon of North East,
Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one sister, Maryann Roach.
Memorial services will be held at a date and time to be announced. There will be no
calling hours.

Maloney, Wilma Eunice Farquharson
Wilma Eunice Farquharson Maloney, 96, formerly of 4 Hopkins St., Jamestown and
the Frewsburg Rest Home, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 14, 2011), in Heritage Village
Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Salamanca, N.Y., the daughter of the late Ralph
William Farquharson and Susie Etna Bennet Farquharson.
Wilma was a 1934 graduate of Salamanca High School and a 1937 graduate of Fredonia
State Teachers School. She had taught school for one year in East Otto, N.Y.,
from 1937 to 1938. In earlier years, Wilma was been employed by Bell Aircraft in
Buffalo during World War II. She moved to Jamestown in 1952, and was employed by
Jamestown Stamp Company from 1952 to 1956, and by Empire Mutual Insurance Company
from 1957 until she retired in 1977.
Surviving are five stepsons: Donald (Ann) Maloney of South Dayton, Jerry Maloney
of Kennedy, Clark (Marilyn) Maloney of Corning, N.Y., Rue (Georgia) Maloney of
Falconer, and Gene (Sally) Maloney of Mathews, N.C.; a stepdaughter-in-law, Michiko
Maloney of Raleigh, N.C.; several nieces and nephews in the Philadelphia, Pa.; and
several step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Maloney, whom she married
April 21, 1995, who died Dec. 2, 2001; two brothers: Elton and Paul Farquharson;
a sister, Rosalind; two stepsons: Richard and Rodney Maloney; three
stepdaughters-in-laws: Margaret "Peg" Maloney, Diane Maloney and Alma Maloney.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan
Anderson, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg will officiate. Burial will be
in Kennedy Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the funeral service Monday in the funeral
home.

Mansfield, Winifred Caroline
CHERRY CREEK - Winifred Caroline Mansfield, 94, a registered nurse for Gowanda
State Hospital, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk,
N.Y.
She was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Auburn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Arthur and
Bessie (Hale) Smith.
Besides being a nurse she was a devoted homemaker and wife. Mrs. Mansfield was a
member of the Hamlet United Methodist Church and the Villenova Grange 604. She was
an accomplished violinist, loved classical music and playing bridge. She was also
adept at knitting, crocheting, making her own jewelry and telling jokes. She loved her
family and took great pride in all their accomplishments.
She is survived by four sons: Richard H. (Sharon) Mansfield of Cherry Creek,
N.Y., Donald E. (Joanne) Mansfield of Fredonia, N.Y., Arthur R. (Andrea)
Mansfield of Westfield, N.Y., and Thomas W. (Susan) Mansfield of Cherry Creek,
N.Y.; her grandchildren: Michael Mansfield of Fredonia, N.Y., Mark Mansfield
of Cherry Creek, N.Y., Melissa North of Westfield, N.Y., Mary Mansfield of
Sacramento, Calif., Michele Tysiak of Washington, Pa., Lisa Riethmiller of
Dunkirk, N.Y., David Mansfield of Williamsville, N.Y., Megan Mansfield of
Delmar, N.Y., Clayton Mansfiled of Tucson, Ariz., Matthew Johnson of Kenmore,
N.Y., Matthew Mansfield of Cherry Creek, N.Y., and Heather Johnson of
Chicago, Ill.; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, June Mirwald of South
Dayton, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edson H.
Mansfield; her granddaughter, Kathryn Mansfield in 1995; two sisters:
Joyce Wood in 2001 and Kathleen Banta in 2005.
Visitation will be held at Hills Funeral Chapel, 478 Balcom Corners,
S. Dayton, N.Y., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the
Hamlet United Methodist Church. Pastor Bethany Ruane will be officiating.
Burial will be in the Villenova Cemetery in the town of Villenova.

Manzella, Sebastian Charles Bud
Sebastian Charles Bud Manzella, 90, of Dunkirk, died peacefully, with his family at
his side, Sunday, June 17, 2012.
He was born Feb. 27, 1922, in Portland, son of the late Frank and Antoni-na (Petronaci)
Manzella.
A veteran of World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the Pacific Theatre
transport command as a mechanic and flight engineer. He received the Asiatic Pacific
Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and American Campaign
Medal.
A retired employee of the former Nickel Plate-Norfolk Western Rail Road in 1983.
Memberships include Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hedwig, World War II Vets
Club and Kosciuszko Polish Home.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Anna (Buczek) Manzella, whom he married November
6, 1954, and son David (Mary Levandoski) Manzella of Fredonia, two daughters: Marianne
Manzella of Fredonia and Melinda (Agostino) Rotondo of Swampscott, Mass., a sister
Constance Carroll of Seattle, Wash., three grandchildren: Jennifer Manzella, Michael
Manzella, Kevin Manzella, along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in addition to his parents are five sisters: Maime Scaccia, Lucy Mallare,
Lena Manzella, Bertha Triglia and Josephine Rizzo; and three brothers: Carl Argerie,
Sam Argerie and Thomas Manzella.

56 E. Doughty St., Dunkirk on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be
held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hedwig.

Marchiando, Frank
October 17, 2011, Frank Marchiando died Oct. 15, 2011, at WCA Hospital.
He was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Dunkirk, a son of Michael and Loretta
Saccocia Marchiando. Later, at an early age, moved with family to
Jamestown. A 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School and military service
with the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946, as a 202nd Instructor
Indoctrination Unit, Calviston, Texas, attaining the rank of sergeant.
He possessed a fine tenor voice, a student of the Bel-Canto signing with a
repertoire from pop songs to operatic arias. He was a Major Bowes finalist
and sang on radio station WJTN in 1940, in Erie, Pa., and Buffalo, N.Y.,
nightclubs.
An accomplished musician, he sang in the original St. John's church choir
and had played the guitar. He was also a self-taught jazz pianist. He was
a student of Latin and Greek etymology, was an omnivorous reader and also
possessed an extensive music library which included recordings sung by
Luciano Pavarotti, Bengamino Giglie and Yusi Bjerling; pianists Art Tatum,
Oscar Peterson, classical pianist; Horowitz Rubenstein, Rachmaninoff,
composers Victor Herbert and Sigmund Romberg.
He attended Alfred University Extension and St. Bonaventure and sang in
California at the Baltimore Bowl.
He was an employee of the Chautauqua County Highway Department office for
35 years, retiring
in January 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Frances P. Dominici Marchiando, whom he married
Oct. 3, 1970, and also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Thomas, Samuel, Dominic and Albert
Machiando; and three sisters: Florence Gualtieri, Lucy Bardo and Helen Valentine.
A member of St. John Church (Holy Apostles Parish) and the American Legion
Ira Lou Spring Post 149, Civil Service Employees Association and AARP.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday (Oct. 17, 2011)
in St. John/Holy Apostles Parish. The Rev. Dennis Mende will be celebrant.
Memorials can be made to a charity of one's choice or the music fund of St.
John Church.
Maring, LuAnn M.
GERRY - LuAnn M. Maring, 55, of Gerry, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at
WCA Hospital, Jamestown.
She was born May 17, 1956, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Lewis and
Genevieve Rogers Maring. A Chautauqua County resident all of her life, she was a
1975 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School.
She was previously employed at Plastic Case in Frewsburg and then at Truck
Lite of Falconer until her illness.
LuAnn was a member of the Gerry United Methodist Church.
She will be remembered as an easy-going person who loved the great outdoors
and animals.
She was the sister of Kenneth Maring of Jamestown, Arlene Hamilton of Frewsburg
and Irene Maring of Gerry; aunt of Raymond Maring, Sheri Hamilton both of
Jamestown and the late Daniel Hamilton; and great-aunt of Alexander Mundt
of Jamestown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Jordan Funeral
Home, Sinclairville. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Stockton.

Marsala, Charles Anthony "Tony"
Charles Anthony "Tony" Marsala, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center on May
15, 2012. He was 73 years old.
Charles was born in Westfield, N.Y., the son of John P. and Carrie A. Marsala. He was
a graduate of East High School in Erie, Pa. He served four years in the Marine Corps
after which he joined the U.S. Air Force for 16 years. He specialized in ground radio
communications. He retired as a master sergeant. He was a graduate of Northeastern
University in Boston. He had a successful career as an electrical engineer working for
over 20 years at MIT Lincoln Labs doing research for the military.
Charles is survived by: his wife, Sandra J. (Tracy); his son Christopher, his wife Katrina
and their children Samantha, Amanda, Mikhaila and Jason, of Billerica, Mass.; a son, Matthew,
of Richmond, Miss. and his children, Christine Marsala and Matthew Marsala II of Burlington,
Mass.; a brother, David J. Marsala of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a brother, Larry Marsala
of Mayville, N.Y. Funeral services were held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral home, 43 Winn
St., Burlington, Mass., on May 19, 2012. Memorials in Charles' name may be made to American

Betty L. Marsh, 68, of 212 Prospect St., Jamestown, passed away at 6:05 p.m.
Thursday (June 28, 2012), in her home.
She was the wife of John W. Marsh.

Marsh, Kenneth L.
STOCKTON - Kenneth L. Marsh, 87, of Stockton-Hartfield Road, Stockton, died
Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Heritage Park, Jamestown.
Husband of 40 years to the late Margaret Mason Marsh, whom he married June
28, 1946, and died April 23, 1986.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Jordan Funeral Home,
Sinclairville.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Charlotte Center
Cemetery.

Martenson, Gene Harry
Gene Harry Martenson of Swarthmore, Pa., died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, of natural causes.
Gene was born July 31, 1928, in Jamestown, N.Y., to the late Harry and Flora Martenson. He
was a 1947 graduate of Jamestown High School.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; three daughters; six grandchildren; a sister,
Sheila Brinkley of Lakewood, N.Y.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Martenson, who
died Aug. 21, 2011.

Martin, Alvin C.
DUNKIRK - Alvin C. Martin, 85, of Middle Road, Dunkirk, died peacefully at
his residence Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, surrounded by his family, friends
and caretakers.
He was born in Silver Creek, on Dec. 10, 1925, the son of the late Clifford
Lee and Olive Grace (Maines) Martin.
Mr. Martin was a graduate of Silver Creek Central School, class of 1943, and
served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a devoted dairy and grape
farmer in the town of Sheridan, for most of his life.
Mr. Martin was a member of Upstate Milk Cooperative, Growers Co-op, Welch's
Co-op and New York Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the former Sheridan
Grange 235 and was currently a member of Fredonia Grange 1.
Mr. Martin loved dancing and square dancing, and enjoyed snowmobiling and
traveling. His whole life centered around the farm, his wife, children and
family.
Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Robert (Loretta) Pierce and Madonna
Martin, both of Sheridan; a son, Mark (Candice) Light-Martin of Silver Creek;
and a sister, Althea Sweet of Silver Creek. Also surviving are six grandchildren:
Brian Pierce, Jeff Pierce, Daniel Struzynski, Kevin (Heather) Martin, Christiana
Martin and Elliott Martin; and four great-grandchildren: Austin, Kaleigh,
Dylan and Lauryn Pierce.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased in death by his wife, Frances (Faulkner)
Martin, who died in March 1993; and by two grandsons: Robbie Pierce III, who
died in 1992 and Joshua Martin Struzynski who died in 2004.
Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main St.,
Forestville, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., from where funeral services
will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in Sheridan Center Cemetery, town of Sheridan, where
graveside military services will be conducted by members of the Dunkirk Joint
Veteran's Council.

Martin, Harland L. “Marty”
Harland L. "Marty" Martin, 74, of 5860 Harris Grove Lane in Charlotte, N.C.,
formerly of Jamestown, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, in Charlotte.
He was born May 15, 1937, in Jamestown, the son of the late Darlene Martin
Peterson and the late Victor Martin.
Marty graduated from Jamestown High School in 1955 and served in the Naval
Reserves from 1955 until 1963.
He had been employed by MRC/TRW in Jamestown for over 35 years, retiring
as a timekeeper in 1998. He relocated to Charlotte, N.C. in September 2005.
Marty was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his great love of music.
Surviving is a sister, Beverly Solinger of Jamestown; nieces Lori Barrett-Wigington
and Cindy Ferraro of Jamestown; a great-nephew Shane Barrett and great-nieces
Chelsea Barrett of New York City, Melissa Ferraro of Charlotte, N.C.,
and Jordan Ferraro of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his mother in June 2010; his father in 1937 and
his step-father, Harold Peterson in 1963; an infant daughter in 1965; and
a nephew, Gregory Solinger in 1980.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The
Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery
in Falconer.

Martino, Edward A.
Edward A. Martino, 64, of Orange, Calif., died Oct. 24, 2011, at St. Joseph's
Hospital in Orange, Calif.
He was born in Jamestown, N.Y., Jan. 24, 1947. He attended Jamestown High
School and Jamestown Community College.
He is survived by his wife, Jantima Martino; two daughters: Susan and Katie
Martino, along with three grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers:
Patrick Martino of Las Vegas and Marty Martino of Chino Hills, Calif.
Marz, Dorothy M.
SINCLAIRVILLE - Dorothy M. Marz, 85, of Sinclairville, died Thursday, June 28, 2012, at
Buffalo General Hospital.
She was born June 28, 1927, in Sinclairville, daughter of the late Oscar and
Isabelle Kenney Anderson.
A Chautauqua County resident all of her life, she was a 1945 graduate of Cassadaga
Valley Central School. Employed as a secretary/bookkeeper, she had been employed
by the former Wilde Oil of Sinclairville, the former Dudley D. Waters Hardware of
Gerry, and the town of Gerry.
Dorothy was a member of the Sinclairville Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening,
bird watching and housekeeping.
Wife of 64 years to Maurice C. Marz, whom she married May 15, 1948; mother of Loren
(Sharon) Marz of Talbott, Tennessee and Brian (Justine) Marz of Johnston City, Ill.;
grandmother of five; great-grandmother of six; sister of Stanley (Noreen) Anderson of
Gerry, and the late Jean Marz, Kenneth, Merril, Donald, Warren and Helen Anderson. Also
survived by nieces and nephews.

Mathews, Linda L.
October 15, 2011, Linda L. Mathews, 60, of 363 Lakeshore Dr. W., Dunkirk, died Wednesday,
Oct. 12, 2011, in Hospice Buffalo In-Patient Unit after a brief and courageous battle with
cancer.
A lifelong area resident she was born Jan. 6, 1951 in Jamestown, the daughter of
Robert L. and Barbara J. Carlson Mathews.
She enjoyed times spent with her grandchildren, family picnics, traveling to visit
friends and family and all the simple things in life.
She is survived by her life partner and soul mate of 23 years Russ Swanson;
two sons: Sean (Carolyn) Carlson of Alexander City, Ala., and Chris (Allison)
Carlson of St. Marys, Pa.; two step-sons: Tan (Janeen) Swanson of Deltona, Fla.,
and Rusty II (Natalie) Swanson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters: Cheryl (Paul)
Wilhelm of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., and Karen (Terry) Bryant of Randolph, N.Y.;
two step-sisters: Barbara (Raymond) Clark of Kiantone and Joann Swanson and
friend Cookie Harlen of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Andrew, Danielle,
Marcella and Julia; and four step-grandchildren: Simon, Josh, Cristina and Andy.
She was preceded in death by both parents and an infant brother.
No visitation will be observed. A celebration of Linda's life will be held

Mata, Michael J. Sr.
Michael J. Mata Sr. of Hickory, N.C., formerly of Falconer, N.Y., died Tuesday, Jan. 17,
2012.
He was born Sept. 16, 1932, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Bova) Mata.
He is a veteran of the Marine Corps serving from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean
War. He retired from Dowcraft Corporation and in earlier years worked in construction.
He is survived by his son, Mick (Cathy) Mata; two grandchildren, Tyler and Zakery of
Kennedy, N.Y.; his companion, Carole Brands and his pets: Pebbles and BamBam of Hickory,
N.C.; a sister, Pal (Bill) Bollman of Danville, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews
and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Matjoulis, Julia
Julia Matjoulis, 94, of 112 Williams St., Jamestown, passed away at 11:15 p.m.
Tuesday (Dec. 6, 2011) in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A Jamestown resident for most of her life, she was born Feb. 12, 1917, in
Grapshi, Albania, a daughter of the late Elias N. and Anna Adams Kianos.
She was a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and the Erene
Society of St. Nicks.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who
loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also
enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and many church events.

Matjoulis of Bangor, Mich., Stacy Manley of Pittsburgh, Pa., Julie (Jason) Helsel
of Lakewood, Thomas (Erin) Matjoulis of Ashville; six great-grandchildren:
Jacob and Connor Manley, Blake, Brin and Bryson Matjoulis, Hayley Tracey; a
sister: Satira Demas of New Hyde Park, L.I.; and by several nieces and
nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas N.
Matjoulis, whom she married July 5, 1936, and who died April 29, 1971, and
a brother, James E. Kianos Sr., who died Aug. 5, 1986.
The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in St. Nicholas Greek
Orthodox Church. The Rev. George S. Zervos, pastor will officiate. Burial
will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. today in the Lind Funeral Home
where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be led by Rev. Zervos at 7 p.m.

Dale R. Maynard, 58, of Erie, Pa., formerly of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Friday,
Aug. 24, 2012, at home, after an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 28, 1953, in Jamestown, N.Y., to the late Lee and Judith (Newman)
Maynard.
Dale attended Chautauqua Central High School and graduated in 1971. He was highway
superintendent for the town of Harmony. He also worked as a maintenance supervisor
at Heritage Rehab and Nursing in Jamestown, until he retired in 2010.
He was married to Karen (Gunn) Maynard of Erie, Pa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing
and camping. He had a unique sense of humor and brought laughter to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Karen; son, Trevor Maynard and wife, Dana, of Clymer,
N.Y.; stepson, Tyler Stevens of Erie, Pa.; daughters: Bobbie Opalecky and husband,
Frank, of Winston Salem, N.C., Megan Greene and Ellen Santiago and husband, Melvin,
both of Panama, N.Y.; grandchildren: Tanner Maynard and Albrey Singer, Zachary and
Aidan Opalecky, Makenzie Greene, Alana and Cecilia Santiago and Devon and Jasmine
Santiago; brothers: Terry Maynard and wife, Gwyn, of Yakima, Wash.; Patrick Maynard
and wife, Tammy, of Ashville, N.Y.; and Bob Maynard of Clymer, N.Y.; sisters: Cindy
Maynard of Yakima, Wash., and Sheila Johnson of Stover, Mo.; and also several nieces

Jacob W. "Jake" Maynard, 32, of Jamestown, formerly of Buffalo, died Saturday, May 19,
2012. He was born March 12, 1980, in Buffalo.
Jake is survived by his parents, John and Deborah Zogrephos; siblings: Jason King
(Licia), Annette, Danny, Christa (Josh), Bekah, Abby and Stephanie (Jeremy); his
girlfriend, Laura Hess; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends all over the
country.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Maynard.
Jake, Jason, and Danny spent many hours enjoying the outdoors and nature. He loved to
cook and travel. He aspired to be a chef someday and was looking forward to a life
with the love of his life, Laura. Jake was loved by so many and will be remembered
for his laugh, his sense of humor, his love of life, and his love for his family
and friends, and his dog, Pudge.
A celebration of life will be held at noon Monday, May 28, 2012, at the Jamestown
Church of the Nazarene, 405 Howard Ave., WE, Jamestown, NY 14701. A luncheon will
follow the service.

Dana R. McCargo, 48, formerly of Jamestown, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 22,
2012, in his home in Tucson, Ariz.
He was born April 25, 1963, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Ernestine B.
McCargo and Haskell Morris, later raised by his late aunt Minnie White of Ashville, N.Y.
He attended Southwestern schools. Before leaving Jamestown he was employed by
Jamestown City Hall as a cleaner. In Tucson, he was employed by Finest Trees as
a landscaper. His specialty was trimming palm trees.
He enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, trimming palm trees and his family.
He is survived by his loving wife Debra, two brothers: George McCargo and Jeffrey
White of Jamestown; four sisters: Joyce McCargo and Margretta (Jeffrey) Watkins
of Buffalo, Glenda (Steven) Davis of Dunkirk and Burnetta (Calvin) McCargo-Leeper
of Jamestown; five stepdaughters: Katrina (Javier) Martinez, Stephanie, Gisell,
Heather and Rachel Abraham and 10 grandchildren, all of Tucson. He is also
survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

McCauley, Erma J.
Erma J. McCauley, 86, of 27 Sunnyside Ave., Bemus Point, died Monday (March 12, 2012)
in Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital in Buffalo.
She was born Sept. 21, 1925 in Bradford, Pa., the daughter of Francis and Bessie
Degolier Abbott, and was a graduate of Bradford High School.
Prior to retiring, she had been employed as a cook at several area restaurants, most
notably the Surf Club in Bemus Point.
Mrs. McCauley was a member of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church and its New
Beginnings Club, and was also a member of Ellery Senior Citizens.
She loved baking, and could always be relied upon to bring everyone’s favorite pie
to family gatherings. She also enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving are three children: Sandy (John) Strenkoski of North Tonawanda, Ron
(Brenda) McCauley of Ashville, and Gary (Liz) McCauley of Bemus Point; seven
grandchildren: Christine (Eric) Robinson of Venice, Fla., Andrea (Chris) Bryant
of Dewittville, Nichole (Doug) Vanstrom of Lawtons, N.Y., Kelly (Marco) Giansanti
of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Jennifer (Brian) McLaughlin of Erie, Pa., David (Nicole)
McCauley of Bemus Point, and Jill (Greg) Lardo of Hamburg, N.Y.; eleven great
grandchildren: E.J., Johnny, and Madi Grace Robinson, Addison and William Bryant,
Sophia and Delaney Vanstrom, Evan and Landon Giansanti, and Hailey and Maggie
McLaughlin; a brother, Tom Abbott; and a sister-in-law, Barb (widow of Dick) Abbott,
both of Bradford, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. “Bud” McCauley, whom she married
July 19, 1946, and who died in 1979; by two brothers: Ray and Dick Abbott; and
by two sisters: Dorothy Gough and Mary Lou Crance.

Frank E. "Bud" McCullough Sr., 83, of Commodore, Pa., formerly of Akeley, Pa., and
Sugar Grove, Pa., passed away Aug. 24, 2012, in his home.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and while living in this area, he worked for
Lundgren Chevrolet and Crescent Tool Co.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; and four sons: Frank Jr. (Candy), Randy (Allison),
Michael (Judy) and Todd; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
McElwain, Staff Sgt. Scott Allen
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. - Staff Sgt. Scott Allen McElwain, 45, of Widgeon Drive,
Lake Havasu City, Ariz., passed away suddenly Saturday (March 23, 2013) at home.
He was born Jan. 1, 1968, in Jamestown, the son of Samuel and Connie Spence
McElwain of Randolph.
Scott was a 1986 graduate of Randolph Central School, and was a veteran of the U.S.
Air Force entering on Jan. 12, 1988, specializing in tactical air control and based
at Homestead AFB while assigned to a unit to fight the war on drugs that was
commissioned by President Ronald Reagan. Following Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait
on Aug. 2, 1990, Scott was deployed on a highly classified post attempting to stop Iraq
from invading Saudi Arabia, thus beginning Operation Desert Storm, where he was assigned
to detect Iraqi aircraft and assist in directing missile impacts to destroy them.
Following Desert Storm, he was assigned to David-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Ariz., where
he met, fell in love with and married his wife, Denise. He was later transferred in
1995 to the Cheyenne Mountain AFB in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he was involved
with the signal intelligence department.
In 1998, Scott was offered a civilian position with Northrup Gruman as a civil
engineer in Amherst, N.Y., later moving to Midland, Texas, after 10 years of service
with the company, at which time he became 100 percent disabled from the symptoms of
sickness and disease he received following his time in Desert Storm, while proudly
serving his country. Many of his fellow soldiers of Desert Storm have become sick or
have since died, all at an early age. In a recent interview, Scott was quoted as
saying "Knowing what I know, seeing what I've seen and going where I've gone, I would
still do it all over again."
Scott enjoyed a passion for hunting that took him many places that included his
favorite hunting party, his father, Sam and son, Chace. He also once hunted with Ted
Nugent in Texas. He attended Sunday school at the East Randolph United Methodist Church
in his youth and was a member of the Randolph American Legion Post 181 and the Lake
Havasu City Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his parents Sam and Connie McElwain of Randolph; wife, Denise Campbell,
whom he married Jan. 22, 1993, in Las Vegas, and two children: Chace and Bailey McElwain
all of Lake Havasu City; a sister, Lisa Burris and her children; Casey and Johnathan
Burris and grandmother Hazel Spence, all of Randolph, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (next Saturday) April 6, 2013, in the East
Randolph United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rene Adams, pastor of the Napoli United
Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Randolph Cemetery, Randolph,
N.Y. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Randolph American Legion Post 181.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Margo Mcfaul, two daughters:

McGrath, Mary Lucille
RANDOLPH - Mary Lucille McGrath, 91, of Fifth Avenue, Randolph, passed away Saturday,
May 26, 2012, the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center in Greenhurst.
She was born May 12, 1921, in Randolph, daughter of the late William and Mary
Elizabeth Jackman McGrath.
Prior to and following graduation from Randolph Central School in 1940, she had
her first job on the Burnett Bush Farm near Kennedy. Workers there literally worked
in the fields on their hands and knees planting and harvesting vegetables. Working hours
were 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the pay was $9 per week.
Later she worked at the former Borden Inc. in Randolph as a machine operator. In 1954
she moved west to California and joined her widowed sister Genevieve in Woodland Hills,
Calif. There she secured a position at Rockwell Atomics International (Boeing), where
she had a Q security clearance for classified materials. Mary Lucille was involved with
the manufacturing of nuclear reactors and sending the first man to the moon in 1969. Retiring
in 1980, she returned to the area and resided in the home of her birth in Randolph.
In the late 1930s and early 1940s, she played softball for the Randolph ladies
team. Her position was shortstop and she was nick-named "Red" "Loc" "Lucy."
Many games were played on the old Steamburg Seneca Reservation against the Seneca
Ladies. She also enjoyed team bowling. In later years she enjoyed gardening and
watching golf on television. An avid reader she was informed on current events,
politics and country and western music; she held these interests until the very end
of her life. She will be remembered for her generous nature which was beyond measure.
She was a Communicant of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Randolph and was a member
of the Randolph American Legion Auxiliary Unit 181.
She is survived by two sisters: Beatrice Vincent and Kathryn Plummer of Randolph,
nieces Marlene Wendell, Phyllis Ventura, Colleen Butera, Sandra Miller, JoAnne
McGraw, nephew Philip Gatch and a cousin, Frances Mary Derby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Genevieve Chambers and Florence
Hale, a brother, Francis "Bugs" McGraw, paternal aunts Genevieve, Ella, Margaret, Mary,
Etta, Dora, Catherine, uncles Thomas, John, Michael; maternal aunts Helen, Anna and
Sara, uncles James, Thomas and Philip and a nephew, George Hale.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, in
the VAN RENSSELAER and SON FUNERAL HOME, 14 Church St., Randolph, from where

David A. McGuay, 51, of Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (Oct. 23, 2011),
in WCA Hospital.
He was born Sept. 3, 1960, in Erie, Pa., the son of the late Frederick and Irene
Robbinson McGuay.
David had been employed by AC Reflective Glass in Dunkirk. He enjoyed working
on cars.

McManus, Phillip “Todd”
Phillip "Todd" McManus, formerly of Youngsville, passed away peacefully in his home
in Fayetteville, N.C., on April 14, 2012, at the age of 49, after a courageous battle
with cancer.
Todd, born Feb. 21, 1963, in Warren, Pa., was the son of Beverly Sitler and Lawson
Parker of Fayetteville, N.C., and James and Marilyn McManus of Jamestown, N.Y.
He was a 1981 graduate from Youngsville High School, where he played drums in the
high school band, was an avid skier, outdoorsman, and Eagle Scout in troop 31 of the
Boy Scouts of America.
Todd was a wonderful cook, and was employed throughout Warren County and Chautauqua
County for several years. He then decided that he needed to stretch his crazy legs
and drove semi-truck so he could see our great country and could stop and visit
his many friends. He loved being on the open road.
When Todd's Crohn's Disease rendered him unable to continue his travels, he settled
in Fayetteville, N.C., and he poured his passion into NASCAR. He built several models
of cars and rarely missed a race. Todd lived his life with a true unyielding spirit,
but none so much as his love for his children, family and many friends.
Todd was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Lillian McManus of
Jamestown, N.Y.; and Lee and Carol Sitler of Warren, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving children: Ashton McManus
of Jamestown, N.Y., and his son, Devon McManus, U.S. Air Force, stationed in Hawaii,
his wife, Heidi McManus, Jamestown, N.Y.; sisters: Terrie McManus, Meadville, Pa.,
and Dori McManus, Jamestown, N.Y., and brother Troy McManus, U.S. Army, stationed at
Ft. Lee, Va.; aunts, uncles, and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

McNamara, Glenn Clayton
HAMLET - Glenn Clayton McNamara, 80, a retired owner operator of the family farm in
Hamlet N.Y., died quietly Sunday, June 17, 2012, in his Sinclairville, N.Y., home
after a lengthy cancer battle.
He was born January 11, 1932, in Hamlet, N.Y., the son of the late Clayton and
Lois (Houck) McNamara.
In addition to farming for over 60 years Mr. McNamara served as Justice of the Peace
for the town of Villenova. He was a past member of the Chautauqua County Antique
Equipment Association, a past board member of Adams Art Gallery and a past member
of the Villenova Grange. Glenn will be remembered for his willingness to extend a
helping hand and his love of woodcarving.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Dorman McNamara of Sinclairville, whom he married
in Forestville, N.Y., on August 28, 1954, three daughters: Kathleen (Kenneth)
Newcomer of Olympia, Wash., Beverly (Donald) Anderson of Sinclairville, Peggy (Gary)
Taylor of Stockton, N.Y., his son Daniel McNamara of Randolph, N.Y., three grandsons:
Matthew (Wendy) Taylor of Dewittville, N.Y., Chad (Ashley) Anderson of Sinclairville,
N.Y., and Glenn Newcomer of Seattle, Wash., his granddaughter Jennifer Taylor of
Louisville, Ky., three great-grandsons: Marcus and Joshua Taylor of Dewittville, N.Y.,
and Ryan Anderson of Sinclairville, and two brothers: Ronald and Leon McNamara.

McNitt, Donald A.
Donald A. McNitt, 57, of 578 College St., Youngsville, passed away Thursday, May 17,
2012, at the Rouse Warren Co. Home.
He was born Jan. 11, 1955, a son of the Late Wanda Arnold McNitt, who passed
away in February of 2009, and Donald G. McNitt , who survives him of Youngsville.
Don was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the
Iron Workers and also worked as a carpenter. He was a member of the Youngsville
and Warren American Legions, enjoyed playing baseball, woodworking and was known
to always lend a helping hand to his family and friends whenever needed.
In addition to his father, Don is survived by a daughter, Denise (Ryan) Salvi
of Roanoke, Va., two sisters: Barbara (James) Bergman of Ashville, N.Y., and Karen
(Ed) Hile of Graham, N.C.; three grandsons: James-Ryan, Cole and Dylan Salvi; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother in October 2011.

on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Gerber, pastor,

Kenneth W. Merle, 68, of 51 Highland Ave., Brocton, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly
on Nov. 27, 2011, at Presybterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., from an accident
which he incurred outside his home on Nov. 26.
He was born Jan. 14, 1943, on a farm in Attica, N.Y., and was the son of
the late Floyd and Helen Schroeder Merle.
Ken was the owner and operator of the Morse Funeral Home in Brocton, N.Y. for
the past 43 years, coming to Brocton in 1968. He also was a former Chautauqua
County coroner, and a member of the National Funeral Directors Association.
The co-owner of MZM Corporation for more than 25 years, he formerly operated
Merle Real Estate for approximately 20 years.
Ken was a member and former trustee of the Tri Church Parish. He was a member
of the former Brocton Portland Civic Association and IDA, and was formerly a
Mason and member of the Consistory. A past member of the Brocton Fire Department,
he also operated a small ice cream stand on the corner of Route 380 and Route
5 for a few years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, gardening and his animals. He always
enjoyed his friends and was a constant entertainer with his continuous jokes.
Surviving are his wife, Suzanne; and his children Stewart (Debbie) Merle of
Ketchican, Alaska, Curtis (Verity) Merle of Portland, N.Y., Amy Merle of Columbia,
SC, Hannah Merle of Wamego, Kansas, Shannon (James Williams) Merle of Orlando,
Florida, Seth (Jody) Merle of Fredonia, N.Y.; and his nine grandchildren,
Jake, Jacquie, Cody, Jessica, Johnny, Kyle, Cole, Gregory and Tyler. He is
also survived by his three siblings: two brothers: William Merle of Hendersonville,
N.C., and Harold Merle of Attica, N.Y; one sister, June Melinger of Warrensburg,
Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Merle; and a brother, Robert Merle.
Funeral services will be held at Tri Church Parish, Main Street, Brocton at
11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec, 1, 2011. The Rev. Kevin Connolly, will officiate. Internment
will follow at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
and Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Miceli, Marie
Marie Miceli, 89, formerly of 19 Elliot Ave., Jamestown, died Tuesday, Jan. 18,
2012, at Heritage Green, in Greenhurst, N.Y.
Marie was born to the late Salvatore and Marie Garifi in Barnesboro, Pa.
She was retired from Chautauqua Hardware, where she worked for many years. She
enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was predeceased
by her husband Cruciano (John) Miceli, who died in January 2006.
She is survived by her sisters Clementine LaMonica of Fayetteville, N.Y., and
Nancy Campo, of Ocala, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been made at the Migliore Funeral Home. Services will not be
observed. Entombment will be at the Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum next to her husband.
The family would like to thank Gary and Doreen Loll for their tireless assistance
and support during Marie's last years.

Miele, Mattia
Mattia Miele, 82, of 301 Lakeview Ave., went home to be with the Lord, Friday,
Dec. 2, 2011, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 13, 1929, in Naples, Italy, a son of the late Antonio and
Assunta Sena Miele.
Following graduation from high school in Italy, he served in the Italian Army
from 1950 to 1956.
Coming to the United States in 1958, he worked for various manufacturers in
the Jamestown area. In 1973, he began a career as a self-employed restaurant
entrepreneur having owned the Colonial Whip, Aldos, Mattias and Dynasty Restaurants,
retiring in 2005.
He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church.
He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be
remembered for his big heart and kind and generous nature.
Surviving are his wife, the former Giampiera Cali, whom he married Oct. 21, 1956;
three children: Grace (Michael) Anderson of Jamestown, Anthony (Mary) Miele of
Nashville, Tenn., and Aldo (Laura) Miele of Mayville; seven grandchildren: Christopher
Champlin of Pensacola, Fla., Kristina (Matthew) Clark of Jamestown, Danielle, Alisha
and Brianna Miele, all of Nashville and Mathew and Michelle Miele, both of Mayville;
three great grandchildren: Rina and Jace Champlin and Wesley Clark; a sister,
Carmella (Frank) Scala of Jamestown; a niece, Rosemary (Tim) Stam of Jamestown;
and a sister and three brothers in Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. James
Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Lind

Miley, Althea L.
Althea L. Miley of May's Landing, N.J., died on Dec. 5, 2011, at the age of 67,
after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Frewsburg, N.Y., on Aug. 20, 1944, the daughter of the late
Leonard and Evelene Bragg.
She is survived by her partner, Sharon Hart; a son, Michael (Eilee) Miley; and two
grandchildren: Sareena and Reese. Also surviving is a brother, Alvin (Delores)
Bragg; and a sister, Nancy Shorterage; as well as several nieces and nephews
including: Andrew and Nathan Bragg, Lora Benson, Tara Shorterage, Donna Dietz
and David Alicea; and a dear friend, Susan Kaitz.
Althea recently retired from JFK Hospital in Wash. Twp. N.J., where she served
as patient relations manager. Previously she was a long-time employee of Vitua
Health Systems, where she worked as a nursing administrator. She was a kind and
gentle person who spent most of her life caring for others. Early in her nursing
career she served as a registered nurse in the U.S. Air Force.
She loved her family, her friends and her pets. She also enjoyed drawing,
painting, wildlife and the outdoors. She was dearly loved and will be sadly missed.
There will be a short memorial service at the Ivory Baptist Church, 633 Ivory
Road, Frewsburg, N.Y., on Friday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Donald Reese,
pastor of the Ivory Baptist Church, will officiate. A reception will follow
the service at the home of Alvin and Delores Bragg at 275 Ivory Road.
Interment will be in the Ivory Cemetery in Frewsburg, N.Y.
Miller, Jane K.
Jane K. Miller, who enriched her community with a passion for justice, music,
storytelling and good fun, died on Oct. 19, 2011, in Ithaca, N.Y. She was 82.
For 20 years she lived year-round at Chautauqua Institution, after sharing
almost 40 years in New Bethlehem, Pa., with her husband, Dr. David L. Miller,
now deceased.
Of the many adjectives that come to mind, her family and friends all agree
that Mrs. Miller was fearless. As a new college graduate, for instance,
she boarded a converted troop ship and spent a summer hitchhiking through
European cities still recovering from war. A few years later, she slid -
literally - into the Chautauqua Gorge with two young sons and delighted in
their intrepid exploration.
More importantly, Mrs. Miller was fearless about taking unpopular stands in
the face of injustice. In the late 1950s, for example, she organized busloads
of college students to picket a school that refused to accept a black student
teacher. Later, she ran for and served on the town council to advocate for
low-income housing, among other issues. Mrs. Miller spent countless hours
paging through dusty court documents gathering evidence that helped unseat
a judge who dispatched more fear than justice. And she started a chapter of
Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) at Chautauqua more than 20
years ago.
Among many tireless efforts to lessen the burdens of poverty and displacement,
Mrs. Miller started the Thrift Shop in New Bethlehem, which became a beloved
community center for the seniors who volunteered there. Her financial goal
was to break even at the end of each month. Despite her best efforts, the
shop always made a profit. So she plowed the money into non-perishable food
for those in need and provided emergency funding for families with special
requests - a refrigerator, for example, or a suit for a young man about to
become the first in his family to attend college.
What she called her most meaningful activity began in 1981, when she saw a
news story about the cessation of a visa program for Cambodian refugees. It
lamented a lack of sponsors for survivors of Pol Pot's killing fields. While
she had no power to change the immigration law, Mrs. Miller never felt
powerless. A few weeks later, a Cambodian family of five arrived in New
Bethlehem. To this day they call her, "Mom."
Jane Miller wasn't afraid to look foolish, and she often did. But as
she always said, she went pretty far knowing just five chords on the guitar.
The world would be a richer place if more of us practiced her many flavors
of fearlessness.
Born on Jan. 30, 1929. in Sharon Hill, Pa., Mrs. Miller was the daughter
of Deborah and Wilmer Kreider. She graduated from Bucknell University in
1950. In her mid-40s, she studied Greek and Old Testament at Pittsburgh
Theological Seminary.
Mrs. Miller's husband and biggest fan, Dr. David L. Miller, died in 2006.
She is survived by sons: R. James of Ithaca, N.Y., and Jeffery of Chartrettes,
France; and by daughter, Margaret of Berkeley, CA. Four extraordinary
granddaughters are honored to carry 'Jane' as a middle name: Sarah, Alexis,
Laura, and Ming. Three grandsons inherited her sense of adventure and fun:
Benjamin, Brice and Chamren. She is also survived by a sister, Annabel
Schnure of Bethlehem, Pa.; and daughters-in-law Chrissie Schelhas-Miller,
Francoise Navasse Miller and Laura Horn. She will be sorely missed by her
nieces, nephews, robust circles of allies in New Bethlehem and Chautauqua,
and by countless others who accepted her friendship and hospitality.
First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown, N.Y., will hold a memorial service
at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011.

Miller, Jonathon Freeman Julian
Jonathon Freeman Julian Miller, 23, of 316 Crossman St., died Friday, May 25, 2012,
following a kayaking accident that occurred this past week on Kinzua Lake.
He was born May 4, 1989, in Jamestown, the son of Myrna Cruz Miller and the
late Ernest F. "Ernie" Miller.
Jonathon graduated from Jamestown High School in 2007 and received his Bachelor
of Science degree in business administration on May 12 of this year from West
Virginia University. He had three majors, business management, international
business and sports management as well as two minors, communication studies and
history. While at West Virginia, he was the recipient of the Blue & Gold Scholarships,
enjoyed intramural basketball and volunteered for Stepping Stones and the Special
Olympics. He had been accepted into the graduate program at the University of New
Orleans to pursue his MBA beginning this fall.
In 2011, Jonathon was able to study with the Consortium Institute of Management
and Business Analysis (CIMBA), through the University of Iowa, in Padermo del
Grappa, Italy. He studied global economics and international marketing while also
having the opportunity to travel to 17 countries, including Italy, France, Spain,
the Netherlands, Slovenia, Austria and Switzerland.
He had worked on the fitness staff at the WVU Recreation Center and also as a
groundskeeper and pro shop attendant at Maplehurst Country Club.
Always a proficient athlete, Jonathon participated in all sports from a young age.
He was active in tee ball, Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, soccer, Northside
football and JHS Red Raider football and lacrosse. He began playing hockey at the age
of 5 and played for many Lakers teams as well as Red Raider high school teams. He was
also a hockey official for 6? years. Jonathon still enjoyed the many long-lasting
friendships formed during his hockey years.
In addition to his mother of Jamestown, Jonathon is survived by his fiancee, Katie
Buckley of Pittsburgh, Pa., whom he met at WVU. They together looked forward to
completing their graduate studies, Jonathon at the University of New Orleans and Katie
at Louisiana State University, and beginning their life together.
Also surviving are his sister, Heather (Tye) Flurie of Mayville, brother, Jason
(Jennifer) Marsh of Middletown, N.Y., and sister, Patricia (Dennis) Dixon of Dewittville;
a son, Cameron Miller of Ashville, N.Y.; maternal grandmother, Candida "Candy" Cruz of
West Ellicott; paternal grandmother, Lucille "Lucy" Miller of Jamestown; six nieces and
nephews: Noah and Evan Flurie, Grace and Lauren Marsh, and Daniel and Ella Dixon; 16
aunts and uncles: Alba and Douglas Arters of Gerry, N.Y., Edwin and Janet Cruz of Phoenix,
Ariz., Priscilla and Steve Schiff of Paducah, Ky., Laurie and David Mattiuzzo of Lockport,
N.Y., Marge and Bill Pietraface of Oneonta, N.Y., and David and Diane, Kenny and Diana,
and Paul and Toni Miller, all of Jamestown; and many cousins, including Ryan Gilsinger
of Lockport with whom Jonathon had a special friendship.
He was preceded in death by his father who died June 13, 2008; maternal grandfather,
the Rev. Julio Cruz; and paternal grandfather, Frederick Miller.

Main St., Jamestown. The Rev. Donald Fisher and the Rev. William Blair will officiate.

Miller, Matthew Allen
Matthew Allen Miller, 55, of Frewsburg, N.Y., died April 28, 2012, at home surrounded
by his loving family.
He was the son of William and Joyce Mintzer Miller, and was a 1974 graduate of
Frewsburg Central School.
Matt was a self employed carpenter and an avid outdoors man.
He loved to hunt, fish, boat and scuba dive. He had a passion for animals, history
and loved to bake and cook for his friends. Matt was a member of the Carroll Rod
and Gun Club and the Erie Beagle Club. His organs are being donated to the Department
of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences at the University of Buffalo.
Matt is survived by his mother, Joyce; brothers: Mark and David (Roxanne); a sister,
Cathy (Paul) Eckman; daughters: Lacey (Scott) Miller and Jillian Jackson; and
a granddaughter, Eden Miller.
He was preceded in death by his father, William, in 2010.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs-day, May 3, at the Relief Zone
Community Center, (the white church at the five corners in Frewsburg). Pastor
Cameron Lienhart will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow the service

Thomas L. Milliman, 46, of 4120 Pancake Hill Road, Bemus Point, died Saturday August
18, 2012, in his home.
A Jamestown native, he was born June 1, 1966, a son of the late Carl and Loretta
Woodcock Milliman.
He was a 1984 graduate of Maple Grove Central School.
He was employed by Boyles Motor Sales Inc, in the parts department. He earlier had
worked for JNK Machine.
He enjoyed fixing and tinkering with anything mechanical. He was an avid fan
of the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills, NASCAR and four-wheeling.
Surviving are a sister Priscilla Curry of Jamestown, five brothers: Harry Milliman
of Frewsburg, Edward Milliman of Randolph, Timothy Milliman of Ashland, N.E., Carl
Milliman of Gilbert, Ariz., and Jamie Milliman of Jamestown; a companion of 10 years,
Donna Seaton; three children: Charlotte, Dylan and Hannah Eckert, all of Bemus Point,
and several nieces and nephews
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two nieces, Elisabeth Milliman
and Brandi Jo Milliman.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind funeral Home. The

BROCTON - Lynda Kae (Thorpe) Mills, age 68, of Central Ave., Brocton, N.Y., died
Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk.
Lynda was born on June 25, 1943 in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late
James Elmer and Ruby Dean (Lewis) Thorpe.
A Western New York resident most all her life, Lynda had owned and operated
several restaurants in the Jamestown area prior to moving to Mesa, Ariz., in the
early 1990s. She came back to this area in 2008 to be closer to family. She
enjoyed gardening, cooking, crafts, entertaining her friends and trying new
recipes; however, Lynda's family was most important to her. She was the proud
grandmother of Jordin, Courtney, Haley, Thomas, Laura and Heather, and great-
grandmother to Carson.
Besides her grandchildren and great-grandchild, Lynda survived by her husband,
Leonard W. Mills, whom she married on Aug. 19, 2000 in Maple Springs, N.Y.; her
two daughters: Kelly (Villardo) Ward and her husband, Jeffrey of Willis, Texas, and
Jody (Villardo) Johnston and her husband Mike, of Brocton, N.Y.
She is further survived by her sister, Cindy Maione and her brother Brian Thorpe
both of Jamestown, N.Y.
At Lynda's request, no calling hours will be observed. Services will be private.

Jorge Mateo Miranda, died Wednesday afternoon June 20th 2012. He served as a Pentecostal
Pastor and accountant for many large companies in Puerto Rico. He is survived by his son,
Joel (wife Melanie), of Brooklyn; daughter, Eunice; grandchildren: Kyara and Josiah,
all of Jamestown; and many Mateo Miranda family in Puerto Rico. He was a great father,
grandfather, brother and friend. His family meant everything to him. A private service
was held in Jamestown.
Mistretta, Mary G. Landy
Mary G. Landy Mistretta, 86, of 19 Dearing Ave., Jamestown, died Thursday
Nov. 3, 2011, in WCA Hospital.
She was born Jan. 28, 1925, the daughter of Michael and Genoveffa DelVecchio
Landy.
Mary had been employed by the former National Worsted Mills, Nugents,
Norlanders and Zuckermans.
She was a member of St. John/Holy Apostles Parish, where she was a
former member of its Alter and Rosary Society.
Besides being a devoted mother, she was also devoted to her family and
friends. Cooking for family and friends gave her great pleasure.
A woman of very strong faith, she always had a positive attitude, was
very empathetic and always found the good in people.
She loved visiting with her grandchildren Lindsey and John, shopping
with her granddaughter and following her grandson's football games. Vacations
with her grandchildren were also very special to her. In addition to the
joy of her grandchildren, she enjoyed her daily soap operas, and phone
calls from family and friends.
Mary is survived by three sons: Dr. Charles (Graceann) Misteretta,
Michael J. Mistretta and John A. (Pamela) Mistretta, all of Jamestown;
a brother Joseph Landy of W. Virginia; two grandchildren: Lindsey Mistretta
and Johnny Mistretta, both of Jamestown; three step- grandchildren: Amy
Fashano, Angela Stanley and Jamie Stanley; a brother-in-law, Clifford
Barnes; and Cynthia Lundquist, mother of Lindsey and Johnny.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her her husband, John
J. Mistretta, who died May 6, 1986; two sisters: Teresa Barnes and Antoniette
Patulo, and a brother, Dominic Landy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Noon

Moeller, Robert J.
SINCLAIRVILLE - Robert J. Moeller, 65, of Sinclairville, died Sunday Dec. 11,
2011, at Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk.
He was born Aug. 24, 1946, in Jamestown, the son of the late John and Violet
Franzen Moeller.
A 1965 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, he was a lifelong resident of
Chautauqua County.
He was employed as mechanic for Zahm and Matteson until 1980 and then with the
Chautauqua County Highway Department until his retirement in 2008.
Bob was a life member of the Sinclairville Volunteer Fire Department, enjoyed
farming and collecting Lionel trains.
Husband of 27 years to Betty Jo "B.J." Galloway Moeller; father of Matthew (Lynn)
Moeller of Cassadaga, and Mark (April) Moeller of North Carolina; grandfather
of Damian and Akasha Moeller; brother of the late Patricia Kuzma. Also survived
by nieces and nephews.

Molen, Jack Vander
Former Lakewood resident, Jack Vander Molen, died Dec. 7, 2011, in West Palm Beach, Fla.
He was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Spring Lake, Mich., to Elsie and John B. Vander Molen.
Mr. Vander Molen served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 26th infantry
division in the Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded five battle stars.
A graduate of Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids, Mich., he was a nationally
known furniture designer. In the 1950s, he designed the mid-century modern furniture
line American Casual for the Jamestown Lounge Co. In 1959, he won the House Beautiful
Magazine's Best Chair of the Year award. He also worked with Dupont in initiating
the use of polyester fiber, now used profusely in upholstered furniture.
In the early 1960s, he purchased Shearman Brothers, which manufactured high
quality upholstery. Through the years he never lost his enthusiasm for painting
watercolors, and his efforts are in many private and commercial collections. He
exhibited in many juried art shows, including Laguna Beach and California, where
he studied with noted California artist, Leon Franks. He was a scratch golfer, who
won many tournaments.
He is survived by his son, Jon Vander Molen of Lakewood, N.Y.; daughter, Nancy
Vander Molen of Lancaster, Pa.; former wife, Caryl Vander Molen of Lakewood, N.Y.;
wife, Jeanne Vander Molen of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters: Marian (Marvin)
Meyers of Jensen, Mich., and Marjorie (Hugh) Hyde of Spring Lake, Mich.; and
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will hold a memorial service in Spring Lake, Mich., at a later date.

Monroe, Henry A. "Hank"
Henry A. "Hank" Monroe, 89, died April 10, 2012, at Treasure Coast Hospice of
Stuart, Fla.
He was born in Westfield, N.Y., the son of Nelson Monroe and Mildred (Fickle)
Monroe. He married Sarah M. Spacht on Nov. 1, 1942, in French Creek, N.Y.
He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Coast Guard. Together with his
wife, they owned Westfield Fisheries in Barcelona, N.Y., before retiring.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Moose lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Spacht Monroe.

Morin, Leo O’Neil
Leo O'Neil Morin, 64, died Wednesday evening (Dec. 21, 2011) at his home in Ripley,
N.Y. after a short illness.
He was born June 6, 1947 in Caribou, Maine, the son of the late Edna Carris and
Bernard Morin.
Leo had worked for a major company in the transportation industry in Erie, Pa.
A very highly decorated American soldier, he served two tours in Vietnam and received
the following medals for his service to our country: National Defense Service Medal,
Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star w/
Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with "V" for Valor, two Silver Stars, two Purple
Hearts, Marksmanship Ribbon and Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Sonya Morin; three daughters, Kerry
Strang of Ripley, N.Y., Kasey Rothwell of Westfield, N.Y. and Tammy Balch of Connecticut;
three sons: Kris Morin of North East, Pa., and Michael Morin and David Morin, both of
Connecticut; his step-parents, Edgar and Ruth Carris of Ripley, N.Y.; eight sisters,
Bernadette Carter of Ripley, N.Y., Dianne (Chet) Orlowski of Illinois, Cora Urquilla
of California, Wendy (Jose) Segovia of Ripley, N.Y., Brenda (Donald) Pamula of Ripley,
N.Y., Cindy (Richard) Kolstee of Ashville, N.Y., Brenda Parker of Westfield, N.Y., and
Patty Mitchell of Fort Myers, Fla.; three brothers, Edgar Carris Jr. of North East,
Pa., Tim (Linda) Carris of Ripley, N.Y. and Victor Parker of Jamestown, N.Y.; 17
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Whiteneck and
Debra Buesink.

Church, East Main Street, Westfield, N.Y. with the Rev. Vincent Sanzo, pastor,

Morris, Anna Elenore
Anna Elenore Morris, 78, of Brocton, passed peacefully at home Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011,
of natural causes.
This beautiful woman is survived by her wonderful, loving husband, Robert Lee
Morris; four of her five children; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Anna's giving, caring nature continues as she has made herself available for
organ donation and medical research upon her passing.
In lieu of flowers, Anna much preferred that donations be made to Amedisys
Home Health Services, as they generously provide toys for children at Christmas.
A special heartfelt thank you is extended to the beautiful people of Amedisys
who not only provided care in Anna's final days, but also brought her compassionate
company and laughter. No words can express the family's gratitude for those
living angels.

Morrison, Charles Roger
RUSSELL, Pa. - Charles Roger Morrison, 64, of 379 Martin Road, Russell, formerly
of Tidioute, Pa., died, Wednesday (Jan. 2, 2012), at Warren Manor.
He was born Dec. 27, 1948, in Warren, the son of Charles and Beverly Grettenberger Morrison.
He had been employed at Quaker State and IA Construction, and was a veteran during
the Vietnam conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy SEABEES.
He was a member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Tidioute, Pa., and St. James
Parish/Our Lady of Victory Oratory, Frewsburg.
Besides his mother of Warren, Charles was survived by his wife, Kim Schager Morrison,
whom he married June 29,1974, in Tidioute; two children: Derek (Susan) Morrison of Logan,
Utah, and Corinne (Kevin) Shaffer of New Bethlehem, Pa.; six grandchildren: Tyler and
Garrett Shaffer, Brayden and Riley Richardson, and Mallory and Darby Morrison: three
brothers, John and K.C. Morrison of Warren, and Greg Morrison of Baltimore, Md.; and three sisters: Karyl Ryan of St. Augustine, Fla., Gretchen Morrison of Warren, and Aliesa Gionti of Titusville, Pa.
He was predeceased by his father; and a brother, James Morrison.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Victory
Church, Frewsburg by the Rev. Darrell Duffy, pastor of St. James/Our Lady of Victory Oratory.
Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery, Titusville, Pa.
No visitation will be observed.

Morse, Stanley L.
Stanley L. Morse of Rancho Mirage, Calif., passed on June 10.
He was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Jamestown, to Warner and Emma Lindbeck Morse. He graduated
from Jamestown High School in 1941 and the College of Wooster (Ohio) in 1945. He and
his family moved to Texas and then to California in 1951, and retired to Rancho Mirage
in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers: Warner Morse Jr., John Lindbeck
Morse and Philip Otto Morse.
He and his wife June (Zahn) just celebrated 65 years of marriage. In addition to
his wife, he is survived by three sons: William of Cambodia, David of Newcastle
Maine and Joel of Northampton Mass.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
No services are planned.
Morton, Alfred E. Jr.
Alfred E. Morton Jr., 80, died at 1:04 p.m. Thursday (June 14, 2012) in the Heritage
Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing, surrounded by his caregivers.
He was born April 18, 1932, a son of Alfred E. and Rita B. Davingon Morton.
He is survived by two daughters: Yvonne Suber and Pamela Marsh, and two sons: Alfred
and Rick Morton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, on April 7, 2007.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Heritage
Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

WESTFIELD - Robert A. Morton, 63, of 1101 Edgewater Drive, Westfield, formerly of
Mayville, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, unexpectedly in Westfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 29, 1948, in Salamanca, N.Y., the son of Robert and Irene
Burnside Morton.
Bob was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force as a security policeman
during the Vietnam era.
Bob was a deputy sheriff for the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department in
Mayville retiring in 2002. He was a court officer from 2002 to 2009.
He attended the First Baptist Church in Sherman, was a member of the Westfield
Moose Club, Brocton American Legion, NRA, and was a exempt member of the
Silver Creek Fire Department.
He loved to go for car rides, he would always say he worked in the most beautiful
office that anybody could ask for, referring to the roads in Chautauqua County
as a deputy sheriff. He enjoyed reading old western books, hunting and fishing. He
will be remembered as a kind and gentle man.
He is survived by his mother, Irene Morton of Lakewood, N.Y.; his wife,
Joan Biekert Morton; three daughters: Krista Gunther, Brady Morton and Shae
Morton all of Silver Creek; two step daughters, Cynthia Bish and Kelly (Shannon)
Reynolds, both of Warren, Pa.; seven grandchildren; a brother, David (Dawn)
Morton of Centre Hall, Pa.; and a sister, Deborah Hutton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Morton.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. The
Rev. Paul Sears of the Sherman First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial
will be in the Mayville Cemetery.

Mosher, Ruth B.
CATTARAUGUS - Ruth B. Mosher, 100, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Gowanda Rehab and
Health Center in Gowanda, N.Y.
She was born April 16, 1912, in town of Otto, N.Y., the daughter of the late Henry
L. and Jennie (Ruper) Hebner.
Ruth was a manager for the school cafeteria at Cattaraugus Central School, where she
worked for 30 years. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Otto, where she was
a Sunday school teacher, member of the Ladies Aid, Sunday school superintendent, and
helped with VBS, she also did bulletins and yearly reports.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Elsie Ellis of Cattaraugus, N.Y.; two grandsons:
Larry W. Ellis and Wayne G. (Tina) Ellis, both of Cattaraugus, N.Y.; two granddaughters:
Rhonda L. Kulaw and Vicki L. (Michael) Young, both of Cattaraugus, N.Y.; a stepdaughter,
Deon Thalheimer of Gowanda, N.Y.; a sister, Jeanette Kickbush of Gowanda, N.Y.; 10
great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 23
step-great-grandchildren, 25 step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands: William J. Ellis Sr.,
Vernon Byer and C. Wesley Mosher; a son, William Ellis; her sister, Wilma Preston;
her brothers: Claude Hebner and Raymond Hebner; her stepsons; Charles Mosher and
Basil Byer; and her one step great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran
Church of Otto. The Rev. Howard Warner, Pastor, will be officiating. Burial will be
in the Liberty Park Cemetery in Cattaraugus, N.Y.

Sylva Marie Mueller, infant daughter of Joseph A. and Melissa J. Quisimberto Mueller
of West Falconer Street, Falconer, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday (June 7, 2012)
in the emergency department of WCA Hospital.
She was born March 8, 2012, in Jamestown, N.Y.
She is survived by her parents and siblings; Matthias P. Mueller, Gracelyn P. Camarata
and Serena C. Camarata, all of Falconer; maternal grand-parents: Raymond and Bonnie Leahy
of Jamestown, and Joseph and Rosemary Quisimbreto of Summerfield, Fla.; paternal
great-grandmother, Hedwig Mueller, a resident of Heritage Village in Gerry; as well as
several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Peter Mueller and Janice Swanson

Mulholland, James A.
DEWITTVILLE - James A. Mulholland, 86, of 5595 Centralia Hartfield Road in
Dewittville passed away on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, in WCA Hospital.
He was born in Mayville, N.Y. on May 10, 1925, the youngest of James and Mary
(Matie) Mulholland. He was married for 63 years to the love of his life, Mary C.
Steese on Sept. 18, 1948.
Jim was a graduate of Mayville School, and during WWII, he was a member of
the Army Air Corp, 328th Army Air Force where he attained the rank of corporal.
He was a lifelong resident of Chautauqua County and a self-employed dairy farmer
as well as retired from several area manufacturing firms.
Jim was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes of Mayville, Knights of Columbus,
Mayville American Legion, president of Pleasantville Cemetery Association
and a steward with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Surviving him besides his wife are his children, Jane (Fred) Peterson of Akron,
Ohio; Joan (Peter) Kunow of Westfield, N.Y.; Timothy (Belinda) Mulholland of
Dewittville, N.Y. and Catherine (Donald) Eaton of Spencerport, N.Y. Jim was the
proud grandfather of Julie Burek, Jeremy and Michael Peterson, Nigel Kunow, Timothy,
Troy and Jordan Mulholland, Shawn Rivera, Alex and Andrew Eaton and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, two brothers and two sisters, Jim was preceded in
death by his infant daughter, Kathleen and son, Mark who passed away Aug. 1, 1974.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at St. Mary
of Lourdes Church in Mayville, N.Y. at 11 a.m. No visitation hours will be

Agnes P. Murphy, 70, of Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing, formerly of
Niagara Falls and Severn, Md., died Friday (June 15, 2012) at Heritage Park.
She was born Jan. 2, 1942, in Niagara Falls, the daughter of James and Rosina
McConnaghy Cudahy.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and working on many types of crafts.
Agnes is survived by her children: Bernadette (John) Cantrell of Warren, Pa., and
Christopher Murphy of Pasadena, Md.; four grandchildren: Timothy, Brandon, Shannon
and Mary Cantrell; a great-granddaughter: Elizabeth Cantrell; and a brother, Frank
Cudahy of Niagara Falls.
She was predeceased by three brothers: Joseph, James and her twin, Carl Cudahy,
and a sister, Mary Cudahy.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg.

Murray, Michele Gould “Mickey”
Michele Gould "Mickey" Murray, 62, of 1322 Newland Ave., Jamestown, passed away
at 8:10 a.m. Saturday (April 28, 2012) in the emergency room of WCA Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, she was born June 18, 1949, in Jamestown, N.Y., the
second daughter and fourth child of the late Frank J. and Mina Jane Gould Gould Jr.
She was a 1967 graduate of Jamestown High School.
Michele was currently employed at the Athenaeum Hotel on the grounds of the
Chautauqua Institution, where she was the special function manager and wedding
coordinator. She has been employed at Chautauqua for the past 18 years, and she
dearly loved spending time and working at the Institution.
She was a member of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the Viking Lodge.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt,
companion and friend who was devoted to her family. She loved spending time with
her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also an avid reader, a talented
artist and enjoyed gardening around her back yard pond at her home.
Surviving are two daughters: Laurel M. (Donald) Dalrymple of Del Rio, Texas, Sarah
E. (David) Heald of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Dakota Kuczenski of Lincolnton,
N.C., Sutton Dalrymple of Del Rio, Texas, Dayton Downey, Slade Downey both of
Jamestown; three brothers: Frank J. "Jay" Gould III of Blockville, N.Y., Scott
P. (Mary Bosek) Gould of Jamestown and Joel W. Gould of Rock Hill, S.C.; a sister,
Janette Gould Martin of Grand Junction, Colo.; and her companion of many years
Randall J. Lawson of Jamestown. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and
nephews including Dustin, Mikinna, and Caleb Martin.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Ransford R. Gould and
two sisters: Jacqueline Gould Johnson and Suzanne Gould.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr.
Joan Brown Campbell, director of Chautauqua Institution Department of Religion

Myers, Allan “Giz” Jr.
Allan "Giz" Myers Jr., 85, passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at WCA Hospital surrounded
by his loving family.
Mr. Myers was born June 15, 1926, in Jamestown, N.Y., to the late Allan and Ethel
Watson Myers. He lived on Camp Street in Jamestown for most of his life.
A very patriotic man, he left high school in his junior year to enlist in the U.S.
Navy on his 17th birthday. He served during World War II on an LST and took part in
Operation Tiger and D-Day.
He retired from Chautauqua Hardware, the same building he worked in as a child when
it was National Worsted Mills. In earlier years he was employed at Art Metal Manufacturing
Corp.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and other
veterans' social clubs in the Jamestown area.
Giz was a true handyman. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and
friends from fixing a leaky faucet to putting an addition on a house. He enjoyed
fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He was an avid fan of watching
The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and the Lawrence Welk programs on television.
Mr. Myers is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorna (Lewis) Myers, whom he married
Sept. 29, 1951, in the Ashville United Methodist Church; four children: Becky (Howard)
Honey of Randolph, Pam Myers and Donald Myers of Jamestown, and Terry (Charity)
Myers of Falconer; nine grandchildren: Barry Napier of Everett, Wash., Macey Myers,
Keyanna Rosa, and Kadan Myers, all of Falconer, Charleen Myers and Sadie Myers,
both of Buffalo, and Bart Napier, Donald Myers Jr., and Alex Myers, all of Jamestown;
five great-grandchildren; and several nephews, including Wayne Myers of Syracuse, N.Y.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wilson Myers.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home.
Mr. Randy Honey will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Lucy M. Myers, 94, formerly of Jamestown, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 in La Vista, Neb.,
where she had resided for almost 15 years.
She was the widow of Seibel D. Myers who died in 1986.
