Stephen Kachelmeyer passed away on November 6, 2011 with his
family by his side. Steve lived a simple life, giving his parents the chance
to raise him and learn; his siblings the chance to laugh and converse; his wife
the chance to love; his children the gift of life. He is predeceased by his father
(Michael Kachelmeyer), his uncle (Edward Kachelmeyer), his paternal grandparents
(Edward and Ruth Kachelmeyer), his maternal grandparents (Charles and Pearl Phillips).
He leaves behind his wife (Kim (Swartzfeger) Kachelmeyer), seven children (Devon,
Stephen, Alexis, Zane, Madison, Seth, Summer), his mother (Kathleen (Phillips)
Kachelmeyer), his brothers (Mark, Tim, and Joel Kachelmeyer) and sisters (Sarah
(Davis) and Rebecca Kachelmeyer). Calling hours will be held at Laing Funeral Home
Inc 2724 W. Church St., Eden, NY, 1-3pm, Saturday November 12, 2011, with a memorial
service to follow at 3:15pm. A motorcycle run will then escort the family as we take
Steve on his last ride, from Eden to South Dayton, NY, any interested riders

GERRY - James E. Kahle, 64 of Gerry died Sun., Aug. 19, 2012, at home.
Born Nov. 10, 1947, in Jamestown, son of the late Don and Vera Schilling Kahle. A
Chautauqua County resident most of his life he was an alumni of Jamestown schools.
A veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, he served as a sergeant in the United States Marines.
He was employed for over 35 years at Blackstone/Valeo, retiring in 2007.
Jim was a "home body" who enjoyed working on his home, spending time with his
dog and most of all, loved being with family, especially his grandchildren.
Husband of 44 years to Mary Ann Frye Kahle, who he married January 23, 1968; father
of James (Cathy) Kahle Jr. of Gerry and Kristina (Sean) Kahle-LeBarron of Forestville;
grandfather of Ethan and Alex Kahle and Katelyn and Kyle LeBarron; brother of Bruce
Kahle and Sandra Cordova both of Randolph, Geraldine Sard of Panama and the late Ruth
Mattocks, Doris Ramakers, Maxine Ricketts, John and Don Kahle. Also survived by nieces
and nephews.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Visitation
6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the Gerry Cemetery.

Kanicki, Gregory “Poppy”
Gregory "Poppy" Kanicki, 90, of 2112 Swanson Road in Jamestown,
died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at UPMC Hamot in Erie after an
extended illness.
He was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Pohortz, Ukraine, a son of
the late Eustachyj and Maria Luczyczny Kanickij, and came to
the United States in 1958.
He had been employed by Chautauqua Hardware for many years.
Despite his experience as a slave laborer in Germany and other
hardships, including three back surgeries, more than 30 years of
chronic pain and becoming deaf, Poppy didn't complain or become
bitter. He was a humble man who took care of his family and home.
He enjoyed cooking elaborate meals, watching the Buffalo Bills and
using his riding lawn mower. Poppy was greatly loved and admired by his family.
Surviving are his wife, Ravanina Del Giudice Kanicki; a daughter, Maria (Robert)
Johnson of Erie; two sons: Bohdan (Young Suk) Kanicki and Stephen (Pam) Kanicki,
both of Jamestown; and a brother, Michael Kanickij of Poland. Also surviving are nine
grandchildren: Libbie, Matt, Ben and Dan Johnson, Bohdan and Rachel Kanicki,
Courtney Kilmer, and Stephen and Kyra Kanicki; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Anna Rutkavick,
Julia Rutkavick, Kathleen Stanvito and Veronica Wruwrzacht; and three brothers,
Eustachyj, John and Joseph Kanickij.
A private family service was held. Entombment was in the Sunset Hill Cemetery
Columbarium. Visitation will not be observed.

Kanicki, Ravanina "Nonny"
Ravanina "Nonny" Kanicki, 90, of 2112 Swanson Road, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at
AbsolutCare in Westfield, N.Y.
She was born February 16, 1922, in Sant' Egidio Monte Albino, Province of Salerno,
Italy, a daughter of the late Antonio and Giovanna Del Giudice, and came to the
United States in 1958 from Bradford, Yorkshire, England.
She had been employed by the Southwestern Central School District, retiring from the
housekeeping department.
Ravanina, a devout Catholic, loved to pray and attend church. She enjoyed visiting
with her family and friends, playing Bingo and the lottery, reading Woman's World
magazine and watching Gomer Pyle and I Love Lucy. She liked cooking Italian foods
such as gnocchi, lasagna and chicken parmesan for her family, and baking cookies for
her grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Maria (Robert) Johnson of Erie, Pa.; two sons: Bohdan (
Young Suk) Kanicki and Stephen (Pam) Kanicki, both of Jamestown; nine grandchildren:
Elizabeth, Matthew, Benjamin and Daniel Johnson, Bohdan Kanicki, Rachel (Luke) Farnham,
Courtney Kilmer, and Stephen and Kyra Kanicki; and two great-grandchildren: Gianna
Johnson and Matthew Johnson Jr. Also surviving are two sisters, Alfonsina Del Giudice
and Perla Desiderio of Italy.
In addition to her parents, Ravanina was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory
Kanicki who died October 8, 2011, and siblings Ottavio Del Giudice, Liliana Del
Giudice and Teresa Del Giudice.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home, with visitation
one hour prior to the service. Deacon Michael Lennon will officiate. A private family
committal will take place following the service.

Keddie, Ronald J.
Ronald J. Keddie, 64, of Sheridan, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Brooks Memorial
Hospital, unexpectedly.
He was born in Silver Creek, Sept. 16, 1947, son of the late Robert and Esther
(Bartlett) Keddie.
A veteran of Vietnam serving with the U.S. Navy from 1967-70 and received the National
Defense Service Medal.
Ron was an employee of Robert Basil Chevrolet, a NYS fire instructor for over 30
years, and worked at Children's Safety Village, a retired employee of American
Axle/General, past employee of the railroad, IPSCO Well Drilling, Cobb Ambulance.
His memberships include Sheridan Methodist Church, 51-year member of Sheridan Fire
Department, where he served as chief for two terms, past president, and three terms as
fire commissioner, Silver Creek Emergency Squad, Sheridan VFW Post 6390, Fourth Ward
Falcon Club, First Ward Falcon Club, Kosciuszko Club, Moniuszko Club, Dom Polski Club,
Dunkirk Fireman's Exempt Club, Fredonia American Legion Post 59, Fredonia Beaver
Club, Montour Falls Moose Club, Silver Creek Fireman's Club, and past member of
Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, Dunkirk Moose Club and was the past Bingo
Caller at the Fredonia American Legion and St. Columban's on the Lake.
Ron enjoyed his grandchildren, fire service, training firefighters, fire prevention
with children, a Buffalo Sabres fan, working in his yard, bottled Miller Lite and
a morning Tim Hortons double-double.
Surviving is his wife Kathleen A. (Feinen) Keddie of Sheridan, daughters Jennifer
Tiede of Jackson, Tenn, Melissa (Derek Griffith) Keddie of Sheridan, son Michael
(Penny Patton) Keddie of Sheridan, grandchildren Allison, and Cory Tiede, Kelsie Kucharski,
Kaylynn Keddie. Brother of Donald Keddie of Fredonia, Ellen (John) Cornell of Fredonia,
Daniel (Rosanne) Keddie of Charlotte, N.C., along with many nieces, nephews and
life long friends also survive.
Preceded in addition to his parents is his son Todd Keddie.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Inc., 56 E.
Doughty St. in Dunkirk on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A fireman's service
and military service will be held Tuesday morning, July 3 at 11:30 in Sheridan Fire
Hall.

Kemp, Roland L. "Ron"
Roland L. "Ron" Kemp, 72, of 983 Hunt Road, Lakewood, NY, died at 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday (November 23, 2011) in WCA Hospital.
He was born October 24, 1939 in Shinglehouse, PA the son of the late
Roland E. and Luella Kemp.
Ron had worked at Hope's Windows for 13 years, and for 21 years at Cummins
Engine, retiring in 1999. In earlier years, he was a heavy equipment operator
in Florida.
Ron enjoyed being outdoors, doing a lot of walking, using his metal detector
to look for old coins and rings. He also liked to dig in old dumps, hoping to
find that special vintage bottle for his collection. His favorite times were
those spent with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Betty J. Madison Kemp; three daughters,
Sherry K. Kemp of Jamestown; Terry L. Vincent of Ashville, NY; Michele J. Kemp
(Marilyn Storms) of Conway, SC; two grandsons, Steven A. Vincent Jr., and Dylan
S. Kemp, and both of Jamestown; two sisters, Donna Swarthout of Barker, NY; Sharon
Waydelis of Brockport, NY; and a half brother, Randy Kemp of Wellsville, NY.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral
Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

GOWANDA - Robert E. Kendall, 86, a retired custodian for Pine Valley Central School,
where he worked for eight years, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Lake Shore Hospital
in Irving.
He was born April 26, 1926, in LeRoy, N.Y., the son of the late Lester and Abbey
(Miller) Kendall.
Robert worked 41 years at the Peter Cooper's Glue Factory in Gowanda, N.Y. He was
a member of the Dayton Historical Society, and a past member of the Dayton Grange.
Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by a daughter, Jeanne L. (Royce) Matteson of South Dayton, N.Y.; a
sister, Doris Felt of Gowanda, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Gert Kendall of Orchard Park,
N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse, Elinor M. (Nelson) Kendall,
whom he married Sept. 7, 1948; his brother, Leslie Kendall; and his brother-in-law,
Leonard Felt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at 4 p.m. at Hills Funeral
Chapel, 478 Balcom Corners, South Dayton, N.Y. Pastor Bethany D. Ruane of South
Dayton United Methodist Church will be officiating. Inurnment will be in the Park
Lawn Cemetery, Wesley, N.Y.
Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Kibbe, Ernest M.
Ernest M. Kibbe, 83, of Dunkirk, died Thursday (Dec. 29, 2011), at the Chautauqua
County Home in Dunkirk, after an extended illness.
He was born in Gerry, N.Y., the son of the late Earl J. and Emma (Ornce) Kibbe of
South Stockton, N.Y.
Mr. Kibbe graduated from Cassadaga Valley High School, class of 1947, and served as
president of the reunion committee for several years.
He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for nine years (July 4, 1947 to July
3, 1956) and served as a medical service supervisor during the Korean conflict.
He was a ski instructor at the Cockaigne Ski Resort in the 1970s and early 1980s. He
worked for Crescent Tool in Jamestown until its closing, then was employed at AL Tech
Steel Plant in Dunkirk, until he retired in 1992. He was active in the Crescent
Employees Credit Union and instrumental in starting the AL Tech Federal Credit Union,
where he held the office of president for nine years.
He enjoyed doing many things with his family: skiing, camping and traveling. He also
liked square dancing and taking cruises.
A member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Dunkirk, where in earlier years
he was a deacon. He was a life member of the John T. Murray Vveterans of Foreign Wars
Post 1017 and a member of the Frank Acquavia American Legion Post 1344.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Patricia (Szlachta); son, Steven (Heather
Stalter) Kibbe of Dunkirk; daughter, Sandra (Neil) Barton of Livermore, Calif.; sister,
Delores Runge of Leesburg, Fla.; grandchildren: Jared and Lily Kibbe, a soon-to-be-born
Barton baby boy (January 10); and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Emma; a sister, Dorothy; and a
brother, Morris, who both died in infancy.
A memorial prayer service will be held Monday morning at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity
Church. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
Salvation Army.

82, of Deland Road, Randolph, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012,
in Rutledge Rural Cemetery in Conewango, N.Y. The Randolph American Legion Post 181
will conduct the honors.

Kickbush, Iris
A graveside memorial service for Iris Kickbush of Conewango Valley, who died Feb. 15,
2012, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Rutledge Cemetery, Conewango

WESTFIELD - Bonnie L. (Perry) King, age 60, of North Portage Street, Westfield, died
Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011 at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, NY, following a brief illness.
Wife of 33 years to Dale R. King, Mother of Megan (Chris) Flanders of Westfield, N.Y.,
and Michael (Jennifer Winder) King of Stockton, N.Y. Grandmother of Brenden Winder,
Daniel and Raylee Flanders. Sister of Kevin (Cindy) W. Perry of Jamestown, N.Y. Aunt
of Amber Renae (Scott Lewis) Perry and Kevin Eric Perry.
She was preceded in death by her mother Grace (Beck) "Granny" Perry. Friends may call

Klinefelter, Harry G. Sr.
Harry G. Klinefelter Sr., 63, of Jamestown, formerly of Dunkirk, died Saturday
(May 19, 2012), at the VA Medical Center in Erie, Pa. He was born March 25, 1949,
in Bellefonte, Pa., the son of the late Donald and Katherine (Albrecht) Klinefelter. He
served in the Marine Corps from 1968 to 1977. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca (Donner)
Klinefelter; and four sons. He was also preceded in death by a son.
Funeral services are private. Arrangements are by the McGraw Kowal Funeral Home.
Knowlton, Joyce E.
Joyce E. Knowlton, 85, formerly of Frewsburg and Gerry, died at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday
(June 6, 2012), in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident, she was born July 20, 1926, in Jamestown, the daughter
of the late Clarence and Maude Backus LaDow.
Prior to retirement in 1985, Joyce worked as a cook for the Cassadaga Valley
Central School district for 25 years. She was a lifemember of the Gerry Volunteer
Fire Department auxiliary.
Surviving are three daughters: Nancy Miller (Kenny) of St. Cloud, Fla., Judy Cardone
(Jim) of Wewahitchka, Fla., and Kathy (late Daniel) Robinson of Frewsburg; a son, retired
Master Sgt. U.S. Army Dennis (Becky) Knowlton of Kempner, Texas; several grandchildren
and great grandchildren; and a sister, Francis Bastedo of Hamburg, N.Y.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Knowlton, whom
she married Jan. 7, 1945, and who died Feb. 25, 2006; and a brother, Earl LaDow.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev.
Donald E. Ray will officiate.
Inurnment will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.

Kolaja, Heather Crowell
Heather Crowell Kolaja of Bemus Point, N.Y., and formerly of Bellevue, Pa., and
Corry, passed away at her home, June 16, 2012, due to complications from pneumonia.
Heather graduated from Corry Area High School in 1984, and attended Robert Morris
College in Pittsburgh, Pa. She had served as a special education assistant at Lincoln
Elementary School in Bellevue. She married her husband, Thomas Kolaja in 1987, and
they had three children.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Crowell; her grandmother, Zee Crowell;
her grandfather, Charles Williams; and her husband, Thomas Kolaja.
Heather was loved by all who knew her. She had participated in many events revolving
around her children, as a cheerleader director and a softball mom. She was an avid
cook and especially enjoyed preparing Italian foods. She was "quick-witted" and
quite a trivia expert.
She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labor.
Heather touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her three children: Tierney Kolaja and her children, Adelynn, Kylie,
and Tristan of Bellevue, Pa., Kaley Argee, stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany, and
Ian Kolaja of Bemus Point; her mother, Candy Xander and Candy's husband Tom, of Corry,
Pa.; and also her companion, Jerry Fries of Bemus Point.
She is also survived by her grandmother, Mary Helene Williams of Rotonda West, Fla.;
her aunt, Diane Woodill and her husband, Bob, of Lancaster, N.Y., and their son,
Zachary of Williamsville, N.Y.; her uncle, Andrew Williams and his wife, Cheryl
of Pittsburgh, Pa., and their daughter Cassie.
Also, her mother-in-law, Irene Platt of Corry, Pa.; and her sisters-in-law: Eileen
Downey of Clymer, N.Y., and Ann Thompson, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Louise Carnes
of Waterford, Pa., Theresa Heitkamp of Fullerton, Calif., Tammy Hamilton of Corry,
Pa., and Kathy McGowan, of Spring Creek, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. Also, her
aunt, Barbara Cesario, of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Lind Funeral Home of 805 W. Third St., in Jamestown, N.Y., is handling funeral
arrangements. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Corry.

Kooman, Clinton L.
Clinton L Kooman, 69, of Libertyville, Ill., formerly of Jamestown, passed away
suddenly on May 30, 2012.
Clint attended Jamestown schools, Jamestown Community College and SUNY Buffalo. He
worked most recently at the IDEX Corporation in Northbrook, Ill., retiring in 2005,
as their vice-president controller.
Surviving are his wife Katherine; and children: Kevin (Karen) Kooman, Kathryn (Kirk)
Miller and Keith (Gwenne) Kooman; his mother, Mary S. Kooman of Bergquist Memorial,
Gerry, N.Y., and the late Hubert C Kooman; eight grandchildren: Elizabeth, Lauren
and Katherine Kooman, Brendan, Trevor and Cameron Miller and Tyler and Abbey Kooman;
his sister, Sharon View of Syracuse, N.Y.; niece, Sara View of Lake Placid, N.Y.;
and nephew, Sean View of Salt Lake City, Utah.
A memorial fund in Clint's memory has been established through the Heritage Ministries.
Clint has been so grateful for the care his mom has received at Bergquist Memorial
on the Retirement Campus of Heritage Village in Gerry, N.Y., the fund will purchase

Korwin, Roger J.
Roger J. Korwin, 69 of Granville, Ohio, formerly of Cassadaga, N.Y., passed away on
Jan. 12, 2012, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born in Dunkirk, N.Y., on July 29, 1942, to the late Joseph and Rita (Michalak)
Korwin.
Roger proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a machinist by trade, prior
to his retirement, in the family-owned and operated Korwin Machine Corporation in
Cassadaga, N.Y. He was Catholic by faith, and was a former member of the Stockton
Police Department, Chautauqua County Special Deputy Sheriff and Cassadaga Fire
Department. Most important in his life was spending time with his wife, children
and grand-children. He was very proud of his children and Papa's grandchildren were
the apple of his eye.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Kathleen (Wilcox) Korwin of Granville, Ohio,
whom he married Sept. 14, 1963; chil-dren: Teresa (Dr. Colin) O'Brien of Amherst, N.H.,
Douglas (Rebecca) Korwin of Copley, Ohio, Paul (Joelle) Korwin of Pataskala, Ohio,
and Michelle (Daniel Edson) Korwin-Ed-son also of Granville; grandchildren: Kevin,
Nathan, Alexis, Kayla and Ellerie; and sister, Elaine (William) Mead of Palm
Coast, Fla.

Colman L. Kosinski, 16, of Cattaraugus, N.Y., died Saturday (May 26, 2012) .
Born on Aug. 19, 1995, in Springville, N.Y., he was the son of Lawrence Kosinski,
Cattaraugus, N.Y., and Sandra Zawatski Thiel, Lakewood, N.Y.
Colman was an 11th-grade student at Cattaraugus Little Valley School.
He enjoyed playing golf and basketball. He also enjoyed playing the guitar
and was a songwriter.
Colman worked at McDonald's in Salamanca, N.Y.
Surviving besides his parents are two sisters: Jamee Zolner, Salamanca, N.Y., and
Angela (Dave) Marotto, Jamestown, N.Y; and two brothers: Michael (Nikky) Zolner Jr.,
Lakewood, N.Y., and Chad (Laura) Rylott, Ithaca, N.Y.; and several nieces.
Friends may attend a memorial visitation on Wednesday (May 30, 2012) from 4 to
6 p.m., at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc, Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, N.Y.
A private memorial mass will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Cattaraugus-Little
Valley Music Fund, 25 Franklin St., North, Cattaraugus, NY 14719.
Koss, Kay S.
COHOES, N.Y. - Kay S. Koss, 87, died Nov. 2, 2011, at the Eddy Village Green,
Cohoes, N.Y., after a long illness.
Kay was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Albany, N.Y., and lived in Castleton for
more than 60 years before retiring to Florida. Subsequently, she returned
to the Capital District.
Besides being a homemaker and caring for her family, Kay was a secretary
at the Albany Law School. In her later years, Kay loved playing shuffleboard,
reading, travelling and knitting for the elderly. She was a life member of
the Van Rensselaer Star Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Kay was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Una Elaine (Knapp)
Shields, and the sister of the late Eloise Hanreeder Drum. She was the devoted
wife of 50 years to the late Walter F. Koss.
Survivors include son, Thomas Koss and his wife, Diana of Jamestown, N.Y.;
daughter, Deborah Alber and her husband, Lawrence of Clifton Park, N.Y.,
son, Robert Koss and his wife, Joanna of Rio Rancho, N.M.; seven grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; and nephew, Paul William Hanreeder and his wife,
Olga in Silver Spring, Md.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 4 p.m.
on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 at Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton.
The interment will be held at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.

Alzheimer's Association; or the American Heart Association; or a charity

Kutchmyre, Ruth L.
Ruth L. Kutchmyre, 83, of Eggelston Hill Road, Panama, N.Y., died Sunday, Dec. 18,
2011, at Corry Manor, Corry, Pa.
She was born May 16, 1928, in Ceres, Pa., a daughter of the late Carl W. and
Holice Colman Bradt.
Ruth was raised in Eldred, Pa., on the family farm. She attended McKean County
Public Schools and graduated from Eldred High School in 1946. She later graduated
from business school in Olean, N.Y. and worked for Murray Page Chevrolet as a
secretary, where she met her husband. Ruth also lived and worked in Florida for
a year before moving back to Olean and later to Tonawanda, N.Y., and worked at
Louie's Footlong Hot Dog Stand. In the summer of 1977, she and her family moved
to Panama, N.Y. She then worked for York Steak House as a hostess and then for
Panama School District before retiring in 1990.
She enjoyed watching sports, including Buffalo Bills football and Buffalo Sabres
hockey and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Trautman,
two sisters, five brothers and a grandson, Jason Trautman.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene J. Kutchmyre, whom she married Feb. 7, 1948,
in Olean, N.Y.; two daughters, Holli Adams (Fred) of Tonawanda, N.Y. and Shelly
Stevens (Bruce) of Panama, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Tammy Fardink (Jerry), Angel
Adams, Amanda Stevens (Scott), Kristen Burr (Christian), Ashley Hammond (Bobby);
13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St.,
Corry, Pa., on Tuesday from noon until the time of a funeral service there at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood, N.Y.

Kye, Luella Jean (Baker)
BOSTIC, N.C. - Luella Jean (Baker) Kye, 79, of Bostic, N.C., and formerly of
Sinclairville, N.Y., died Friday, May 25, 2012, at Hospice of Rutherford County. She
was the daughter of the late Floyd and Lucille (Sadowski) Baker.
She was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Stockton, N.Y., and graduated from Cassadaga Valley
Central High School, class of 1950. She retired from the New York State Thruway
Authority after 22 years of service.
She was a catcher for the all-women's softball semi-pro team Koch's Annies, from 1949-53.
She gained fame in 1961 by becoming the first female umpire east of the Mississippi,
umpiring baseball and softball for over 20 years. She was inducted into the Chautauqua
County Umpires Association Hall of Fame in 1987. She also coached, organized leagues
and conducted coaches clinics in Chautauqua and Erie counties. When the Babe Ruth
Baseball league started girls' softball, she was instrumental in introducing Babe
Ruth softball to the Chautauqua County girls' leagues. In 1987, she coached the champion
13-15-year-old Chautauqua County All-Stars in the regional playoffs in Buffalo. The
team advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in Edison, N.J., where the team placed
third. In 1993, she was inducted into the Western New York Softball Hall of Fame.
She was a member of the Chautauqua County Baseball Umpires Association, Chautauqua
County Softball Umpires Association, Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary, and Rutherford
County Women of the Moose.
During the last few years, she worked as a volunteer as a guardian ad litem, acting
as an advocate in court for more than 70 children who were taken into custody by the
Department of Social Services. In her spare time she knitted many caps for newborns
in the neonatal unit of local hospitals. She also volunteered for many years for Trooper
Toys for Tots in Fredonia. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling on cruises, working
jigsaw puzzles and working in the yard. Her favorite pastime was visiting and talking
to family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Terry Kye of Fredonia, and Cheryl (James) Muscato
of Madison, Ohio; two granddaughters, Kristen (Nick) Martin of Perry, Ohio, and Jamie
Muscato of Willoughby, Ohio; one great-grandson, Ethan Martin; two brothers, Robert
Baker of Bostic, N.C., and William (Carol) Baker of Cassadaga; and several nieces and
nephews. She is also survived by longtime friend, Mary Ann Sands.
As per her wishes, there will be no memorial service. Donations may be made to the
American Heart Association or to your local hospice.
